Please Guys! Some advice before I lose my positivity!
Well I've asked about this a few times but not had any real answers or anything that can actually help me through this, so I'm not going to try and explain really I'm just going to ask the questions/ thoughts and if you want more feel free to ask.
1) I have self confidence issues and the more my life goes on the more I hate HAVING special interests (not the actual interest just having them when no one else does)
So questions
2) does anyone else feel like this?
3) is there I way I can stop feeling like it has to take over my life, dull down the obsessive need to talk/think about it
4) have you ever felt you can set yourself a target and after your interest related target has passed your interest fades away
5) have you ever managed to kind of make yourself take on one particular interest, basically has it ever been done? And how?
6) how do you deal with the horrible downer that comes when you loose one?
7) do you ever feel that an interest kind of clings on and it's ready to go but not quite gone yet? How do you deal with that?
I know this is stuff only another aspie can answer really and I just really want support on this!

1) I am a control freak, so I have always been resistant to doing the things I enjoyed just because I did not want it to be consuming. Not only that, but people assume I like doing some things when I really do not (like coloring) - I just do it out of necessity and because it needs to exist.
2) Never particularly. I honestly admire people who can dedicate their life to something. Just think of it like that.
3) Try to make buffers - branch out to things that relate, but are not easily associated with. For example, I am obsessed with death. I end up writing stories about it, drawing pictures, reading science books about universal collapse, philosophical and mythological books as to the meaning of life and death, studying war and social psychology, watching movies, etc. etc. While I can come off as really liking to write, watch movies, reading philosophy, etc. etc. You can all tie it back down to an obsession with death if you know where to look.
4) Target, no. Temporary obsessions, maybe.
5) Not sure what you mean by take on. You do not need to get rid of your obsession if that is what you are implying. Some people can go professional with their "obsessions."
6) I never think about it. Just move on. More important things to do. Sleeping does help though.
7) Usually it happens when I am required to do one thing and want to do another. Get a notepad and just write out what you want to do or whatever racing thoughts are in your head. This will allow you to "vent" and put what thoughts you have for later. Alternately, just throw yourself hardcore into something until you are just outright tired of it.
Hi PixieXW,
Here are my attempts at answering your questions ... Hope it will help you!
1) I have self confidence issues and the more my life goes on the more I hate HAVING special interests (not the actual interest just having them when no one else does)
You might want to check out a website called "Marc and Angel Hack Life." I just discovered it a few weeks ago and it's amazing whenever I want to lift my mood or feel self confident in being my own unique eccentric self.
Click Here to Go to the Marc and Angel Hack Life website
2) does anyone else feel like this?
I've pretty much just gone ahead and been myself most of my life. Does that make me popular? Well, no. But that's my decision, because creativity is my life.
3) is there I way I can stop feeling like it has to take over my life, dull down the obsessive need to talk/think about it
Find other interests or things to think about at the same time to balance it out ... Maybe not "other interests" exactly, but even just enjoying the simple things in life?
4) have you ever felt you can set yourself a target and after your interest related target has passed your interest fades away
My interests (except for my new big interest which is art) tend to be based on what's currently popular in science fiction or fantasy ... Star Trek, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, X-Files, Lord of the Rings, now I'm back to Star Trek ... The interest tends to come and go based on how many other people are watching the show so I can have other people to talk to or attend conventions with.
5) have you ever managed to kind of make yourself take on one particular interest, basically has it ever been done? And how?
Yes. I am now an artist. Takes a ton of passion, hard work, learning, building your skills, love, and discipline. Have had my fine art photos on display in five art galleries and two museums.
6) how do you deal with the horrible downer that comes when you loose one?
It's a matter of being grateful for what you have at the moment ... again, I would suggest that website Marc and Angel Hack Life.
All the smiley faces are to tell you how good the website makes me feel.
7) do you ever feel that an interest kind of clings on and it's ready to go but not quite gone yet? How do you deal with that?
That's just a part of life.
Wishing you the best,
...

AAAAAARRRGGHH!! !! ! Oh my god! I think I have moved on to an interest in the character I have just been playing in a school play, she's not a major character and I have no idea how to deal with this one, I've not had such a strange interest in years. I think it is going to be another short term one but argh! So unfair. I think I might try and write a story about her or something and then hope I can get round it that way. It's so typical we've just finished this play! And now I have loads of character development in my head!! Argh I can't believe this.
