Sooo it's currently 1 am here and the girl living next to me (student dorm) thinks this is a great time to invite like 10 friends and watch TV super loud, oh and they're singing and playing guitar.

The walls here are so thin sleeping is impossible like that. So I went to the kitchen because I was planning to sleep on the couch there and what do I see? More of her friends making pizza. Just great.

I don't know what to do. The problem is, whenever I want to sleep but can't because of noise I quickly become agressive and then a meltdown isn't far.

Do you have a dorm resident assistant or dorm parent that you can call up or go to their room to resolve the problem (they may be grumpy you are waking them but you are grumpy because your neighbor will not let you sleep). You can also be confrontational and go to your neighbor and tell her that she and her friends are too loud and preventing you from sleeping. Does your dorm have quiet hours (mine did after midnight to 6AM)?

Technically noise is forbidden at all times but nobody cares. And the problem is that all of my three neighbours are still awake right now, and even the ones that aren't making noise don't seem to mind it, and if I ask her to be quiet that would mean she'd literally have to throw her friends out and would probably hate me (we're all new here so I don't want to mess it up with someone right away). And I know that I can be hyper sensitive when it comes to sleep and noise and don't want to look like an annoying grumbler.

So.. yeah. I just can't stand up for myself, it's always been a problem.

I'm wearing ear plugs now. I can still hear it but it's better. Might take a look if the kitchen's still occupied. Though I'd feel embarassed if they'd reenter some time in the night and find me there.

I have always had a hard time standing up for myself as well.

It sounds like your living arrangement stinks for your needs! :( How frustrating!

I am glad you are trying the ear plugs. Have you tried a white noise machine? Sometimes they are on cheap alarm clocks, and you can just use it to play nature sounds or white noise and it covers up a bit of the chaos. Or the sound of a fan is something I personally like to drown out other people.
.
Admitedly, I only made it one year in the dorm and then I got a studio apartment. I was so exhausted from the courses and socialization that I was able to sleep, but I slept alot during the day when no one was around too.

Have you ever tried a weighted blanket? While it doesnt provide a remedy for the sound specifically, the comfort a weighted blanket can provide could help you in regards to not having a meltdown and relaxing. I am making one for myself and it makes me feel quite comfortable, like Pooh bear in a cave full of honey.

Just my two cents! Hope your situation improves!

It's mostly quiet (with earplugs) now, but I now feel so alert that I probably won't fall asleep for ages. Oh well.

I have serious trouble falling asleep, even without noise. I should probably see a doctor about that. Though I don't really know what I could do to make it better. Earplugs can only keep out so much noise, and barely help when there's 120 decibel next to you. And when it's perfectly quiet my brain will suddenly have to think about a sh*tload of very important stuff and play mental videos of movies and games I like and make me feel uncomfortable. :x

Santus you fool. Don't you know that school is for socializing and hanging out? What are you there to learn or something? :D

In your situation, I'd say it's time to find some way to get out of there.

SickInDaHead, I just want to clarify that your statement is sarcastic and the indicator of this is the smiley?

Sanctus, this would be a situation that could be helped with the office of disability at your school to find alternate housing arrangements. Does the dorm have a curfew and if not is the library 24 hours so you might be able to sleep there.
I second the weighted blanket comment, mine helps me calm down. For sleeping if you are willing to consider meds, a really low dose anti-anxiety med can help with the racing thoughts.
Sorry you are having troubles, I understand the difficulty of standing up for yourself in a situation that could become confrontational. Having trouble sleeping is also something I struggle with (especially in a different environment at school away from home). I hope it gets better.
