Yesterday, I woke up in the middle of the night anxious and tearful. Tonight, I was so irritated that I ranted at a little kid in the grocery store on how NOT to be annoying (and subsequently was told to stop it or leave). It's like something just gets under my skin sometimes and won't go away for days and days.

I got through one of these at least twice a year. During these episodes, I change my e-mail, I suddenly drop interests, I lay on my bed all day staring at the ceiling, just feeling miserable. Trying to have empathy for others is beyond me, and I start to feel a bit like a sociopath (lying without effort, shallow emotions other than just a general melancholy, irresponsibility, needing stimulation all the time). Maybe it's just me, but I can't tell why I'm irritated, ever. I'm just confused.

I'm not sure how anyone can help me with that... I just need to rant.

You have felt "off."

But were you ever felt "up"?

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist.

Man I know how you feel :/
Just a blankness between phases of anger and depression
Really wish I could be any help, but I'm going through the same thing right now

The only thing that comes to mind would be that if these "couple of times" can be paired up with a specific time of the year you might have Seasonal Affective Disorder, some people get like what you described during either winter and/or summer or during winter-like and/or summer-like weather. This is just what popped into my mind after reading your post so if you happen to have hypochondriac tendencies please for the love of Thor don't just assume this is what is making you feel like that, use your Aspie powers to methodically, objectively and scientifically conclude it. (I know it's a stereotype but I just thought it would be funny to make that suggestion in that such manner  )

I feel this way all the time. In fact, lately it has been getting much worse. I have delivered pizza in the same area for 5 years now, but lately I have lost my "reference feelings" that let me know where I am. So, I can end up getting very turned around in neighborhoods that I have, quite literally driven around in thousands of times. I'm quickly getting to the point that I am going to have no choice but to seek professional help.

How far off? I've felt off for a very long time but I think I am further off than when it started.
