This is a line from "House M.D." season 3 episode 4 I think. I thought it was quite fitting as I came home from school to see that my parents have decided to decorate my bedroom which involves taking out my carpet. It may seem stupid but I'm feeling quite miserable about the whole thing. I like my carpet I don't want a new one. I screamed for them to put it back. That didn't work and I don't really know what to do I'm sorry if this seems petty my parents said it was petty but I really want it back!

I don't think that's petty at all, I would be exactly the same if I came home and something had changed. It's a shame that your parents don't understand that people with AS struggle with change.

You could try explaining calmly that you were attached to that carpet and would like it back. If that doesn't work you may just have to learn to live with the new carpet. I hope you will get used to it eventually.

I tried what you said. They said: "don't be stupid your carpet is a disgrace" I'm kinda freaking out right now and I don't know what to do!

Wow. 8O Did they not even ask you first? If I was going to redo my kid's room, I'd at least let him know before it happened, and even let him help me choose the new stuff. I wouldn't just spring it on him. And he's only 4. They definitely should have asked for your input on this instead of just doing it.

Oh dear, how awful. I got upset once when somebody moved a table without consulting me. A carpet would be far worse (especially if I didn't like the new colour). Hope you get used to it OK.

Personally I love the way it smells. Also love the smell of new cars. But everybody has their own perception when it comes to smells.

Do they still have the old carpet rolled up somewhere? Maybe you could make some mats out of it to bring the familiarity of the old carpet back into your room.

Thanks for the input everyone. I spent my day not talking to anyone. I didn't feel in the mood. I have to go and pick another carpet but one not the same colour which again I'm unhappy about. I feel quite miserable at the moment.

I'd be pissed too. Nobody changes my lair without my permission.

Yes, this seems a good idea if that is possible.

I am sorry you are having such a difficult time with your parents lack of understanding.

That is awful! Luckily I had parents who left me and my room alone. I live in a care home now though and we have just been informed that the landlord is replacing all the carpets, curtains and paint in the communal areas. Despite the fact that we live here (6 other residents) we have no say in what colour, texture or design will be going in. I no longer go in the communal areas where I can help it and if the landlord thinks he's messing with the room I am in well he'd better find me somewhere else to live first!
