The backwards ass town I live in moved Halloween to tomorrow night. It CANNOT be tonight, because tonight is prayer meeting night! GASP!! !! !!

I'm not giving out candy tomorrow night. Nope! Tonight is Halloween! I guess they think that the Baby Jesus cries if kids trick or treat on prayer meeting night or something. This really pisses me off. When they come to the door tomorrow night I'm going to say "What do you want?" Then I will say "It's not Halloween, that was last night. Better luck next year!"

I don't see Druids bitching about them celebrating Christmas and Easter when it falls on a full moon.

Did they really? Wow. Actually November 1st is All Saints Day which follows after All Hallowed Eve. However, the reason I can guess that they moved it is probably because Halloween is thousands of years old and is celebrated by people like druids and anyone who follows the occult. To them it's the devil's Passover. They believe tonight is the night that the evil spirits pass through the visible world.

Because people celebrate this holiday with religious ties like that, a lot of people are paranoid and superstitious, they will believe those little children are evil spirits asking for food or death. This results in lots of them getting hurt on Halloween night since people as tenacious like that. So maybe it's for children's safety reasons and not for anything Christian.

Unbelievable. Wherever you live, it's one unique place.

I understand that in some communities Halloween was postponed because of the destruction from Frankenstorm.

Wow. The idiocy of some people can never cease to amaze me. How could they even consir moving a holiday that is attached to a specific day? It's not like moving Easter Sunday, when 85% of people who celebrate it just go by whatever day they're told..... (and I made that figure up just so you know)

If I were you, I would be ignoring kids tomorrow night as well.

Are you sure that's why they moved Halloween?

Our Halloween will be on Saturday because it is not safe for kids to be walking around (dark streets due to no power, power lines on the ground, trees and debris still in the way, etc). Not to mention the fact that even though my neighborhood was not badly affected (except for no power), other neighborhoods, even within this school district, suffered a much more tragic fate. And even then, their fate was not nearly as tragic as some others.

Nope, it is for church. There are signs up all over the place, especially where they sell candy and costumes, so people will know. It explains why.

Safety is one thing. Ridiculousness is something else.

Also, some churches are having "Judgement Houses" tonight. Like haunted houses, except in each "room" actors replicate the scenario of one other actor dying and going to hell for not going to church or believing in God, for drinking, for dancing, for being gay, etc. Those are tonight, and they are really pushed. However, no trick or treating! That's "of the devil!"

Jeez... no wonder so many people hate religion! As a Christian, I've never even heard of that kind of crap! Junk like that (not to mention those kuckoo suicide bombers) gives all religion a black eye... pity they can't see that.

Since 'Candy Night' has been moved in other areas as well, this post may still be fresh; here in SoCal the bigger churches will preempt whatever normally goes on. Most will offest that by not calling it Halloween, but overall the main motivation is to give kids a safe and well-provisioned place to wear their costumes and get candy, and also for many families in the neighborhood it is one of the few times during the year they will be walking around on a church campus; when I volunteer at those events it's nice to be a part of something that shows Christians aren't all 'like that' and makes them curious enough to come back for a regular church service. Such a polar opposite from how the 'Bible Belt' goes out and makes disciples.

Anyway 'the Church" has been stomping all over other theologies' important days for centuries. How do we even know that Sunday is really Sunday?

You can keep the outside lights off and no trick o treaters will come. I remember the time in 1993, my mother suggested they all do Halloween on the 30th because some neighbors were complaining about how they only want to hand out candy to the neighborhood kids and every year people would come to our neighborhood from the country and would trick o treat in our neighborhood. So my mother suggested how about they all do it on the 30th and the next day they won't have to hand out candy. But yet we had one neighbor that had the lights on and had the sign on the door saying they will hand out candy the next day. Uh why not just keep their lights shut off and then do it the next day? Makes no sense to tape a sign on their door when they can just turn off the outside lights and do it the next day.

"They Moved Halloween" would be a great title for a movie.
