today is my birthday and im close to tears. on facebook, everyone was saying im old. i didn't realize that once you hit 19, your an old person. at first it didn't bother me but now, im overwhelmed and my feelings are hurt. im close to 21, meaning ill be a full adult. i feel people are negative towards me because of how i am. i just feel like i got burned. this is becoming a bad day.
For some reason NTs find it funny to say a person is getting old when they mention birthdays. But at the same timethey seem to think anyone under 30 is too young to be taken seriously. Don't let their stupidity get you down. You've survived another year, gained the experience for another year, and that's the next step in life. I've never understood people's fixation with age. Life is what it is. We don't feel the need to mark time with anything else in life. And time is a manmade concept anyway. Just tell them that on your planet, the years are a thousand days long, so you are almost 7....

If you're old, I guess I'm a mummy!

It's a joke. 19 is so obviously not old, that they are calling you old to basically say "ooooh celebrate, it'll be decades before you have to even start thinking about getting old!" Just post in your status something like "We aren't in Logan's Run folks!"
Plus, I hear 50 is the new 30, so that means I'll soon be turning 29! Although when I actually did turn 30, I wore a long black dress to work that day to "mourn my lost youth". If the world doesn't end next month, then in 2014 I'll be turning 50. That's REALLY going to mess with my head and make me feel a lot older than I already feel for being 48. I didn't feel that I was old when I turned 30, I was just joking about it.
I remember when my mother turned 65 I threw her an "Over the Hill and Halfway Down the Other Side" birthday party. We even printed it on the invitations. She loved it. The place was decorated with black streamers, there was a funeral spray with "Happy Birthday" on the ribbon, several orthopods brought walkers and canes as a joke. Mr John Ed had a big rocking chair as her chair to sit in at the restaurant, etc.
The whole "getting old" thing is really just a big running joke. Don't take it seriously, you'll be hearing it for the rest of your life, until you really DO start getting old and then people will be just too polite to mention that you actually are old. That won't happen until after your 60s.

Whats that got to do with friends making a joke about you getting old when you're not?
As for having trouble getting a job after 50, it depends on where it is you are applying and what kind of job you are wanting. My mother retired at 62, couldn't stand being retired, so she moved to Atlanta and got a job at Emory. She hated living in Atlanta so she quit that and came back to Bham and looked around and found a job managing a home health agency down here in this town. That's how we actually ended up ever hearing of this town. She was 63 or 64 when she got that job and worked there until the company closed. It really depends on your skills, education, past job performance, how long you held the last job, etc.
Yeah, if you are over 50 you will probably have trouble landing a job at any entry level position. However, I know quite a few girls who went to nursing school once their kids were grown and got their first ever jobs, nursing, in their mid to late 40s. It really depends on what the job is, and what your reason is for wanting it.
