I try nOt tO think of these sorts of things the emotions I feel are almost unbearable. I did however previously have a fear of sharks I could not get out of my head. It became an obsession with documentaries and now I actually work with them and help to protect them.

Music boxes terrify me. There are so many films & TV shows where you hear the baby lulled off to sleep with one of those things, then something horrible happens in the next scene. It's worse than the Jaws music for me!

Getting a weird letter from some government agency, say SSA or the IRS, saying that I must pay a huge, unpayable amount of money or be imprisoned or stripped of everything and dumped naked in the street, because of some obscure bureaucratic rule that I didn't know about (and that everyone else seems to magically know about).

Carnivorous snails with paralyzing venom and tiny, razor-sharp teeth.

Right now I'm scared that someone, somewhere, is plotting to invade my home and kill me. :( It's because around three people have recently been murdered where I live (a still fairly uncommon crime here) , and one of them not only has the same last name as I do but her first name was like mine but spelled differently. It may be just a coincidence, or maybe the killer knew me back in school or in one of the homes I lived in and mistook her for me, even though we didn't look alike. The killer or killers are still on the loose and I even saw a sign that showed the three victims, two female and one male-on the bus to the mall this week. I'm wondering if I should put a knife under my pillow at night, but it might slide out and cut me up in my sleep, and I don't live in the US so I can't just legally get a gun or another weapon to protect myself, not even a can of pepper spray! And if that wasn't bad enough the other evening someone on YouTube wrote what a joke the justice system is in Canada, and that's why all the murderers and rapists want to come up here. :(

Remember to turn on the nightlight before turning in tonight :skull:

Not yet mentioned on The List, but should be: Golems. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golem

Broodmother from Dragon Age: Origins.
Giygas from EarthBound.
The scene from Super Paper Mario where Mimi transforms into a giant spider.
Dramatization of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima from Barefoot Gen.
The scene from Children of the Corn where Burt finds Vicky's corpse tied to a crossbar with it's eyes ripped out.
The scene from The Haunting in Connecticut where Matt breaks through the wall with an ax and all of the corpses fall out.
The scene from Final Destination 5 where Olivia gets laser eye surgery and things go horribly wrong.
The scene from Jaws where Quint gets eaten by the shark.
The scene from Water for Elephants where August abuses Rosie the elephant.
The Adventures of Mark Twain - The Mysterious Stranger.

This is far from a complete list of things that scare me and disturb me. I only listed things in media to shorten it up a little, but it's not even a complete list of things in media that scare and disturb me. I didn't go into a lot of detail because some of it might be too disturbing for some of the people here. Some of you have probably seen some of these movies or played some of these video games though.

The only thing you have to fear is fear itself

One thing that disturbs me badly is seeing something dead animated by a mechanical contraption. There was a NIN video ("Cover," I think) that had some thawed, frozen chickens animated in such a way. And, there was a Mythbusters episode where they did the same thing with a turkey (and a fish, now that I recall). I have occasional nightmares of deceased (or dying) humans being rigged up in similar ways. Oddly. Frankenstein-ish things in movies don't bother me the same way.

The movie "The Cell" also had a lot of bad-dream material in it, for me.

The video is beautiful (I love creepy houses!) but I only managed about 12 seconds before muting the music!

When I was about 10 I read a book on nuclear physics, I then had a horrible dream that someone had dropped an A-bomb near my house. My house was the only building standing, and in the dream I could recall exactly how to build a fallout shelter but I was totally unable to find things like doors / tables and sacks of earth to build even a reasonable improvised one. In the dream my inability to build a shelter using a simple design scared the wits out of me.

The odd bit is that what I now know as a scientist tells me that I remembered all the details of how to build a improvsied shelter correctly in the dream.
