Hello

I've been getting a lot of help coping with my autism and learning how people work and how I work trough counselling (I have a psychologist appointment every 1-2 weeks). I've learned a lot and it's becoming a lot easier to handle people and social situations, I'm less afraid and anxious, I can accept people's shortcomings without looking down on them and I've learned a lot about my own shortcomings, such as my view on life in absolutes. That has changed a lot now and I'm feeling quite good about that.

I do however feel horribly alone, I have a lot of "friends" in school (I'm 24, finishing school since I dropped out early long ago trough adult education programs). One of the things that I really cant stand about myself is my looks. I really hate how my nose looks and I'd love to look a bit more normal so I can blend in easier in public without half of the people looking at me.

I'm considering getting it fixed, money is a problem but if I save I could get it done in a year or two. It would help my self-confidence a lot. What do you all think about this? I don't need anyone to tell me what to do but I do enjoy people's opinions about my personal issues. It helps me view things from different perspectives.

This is a link with a side picture of my nose and a bad photoshop about a theoretical result. I kind of think it looks better but I'm bad at guessing such things! It's just bone and flesh in excess amounts, so I don't mind losing some of it. http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/7867/newnosec.jpghttp://img248.imageshack.us/img248/7867/newnosec.jpg

In my opinion, the nose doesn't look that good. Just being honest. If you feel you have to do it, go for it. Just don't go overboard and end up being like Michael Jackson.

I had a few footballs and punches in the nose over the years

Ive had it "reset" a number of times.

Its two black eyes for a week and then fine.

i think most people expect too much from surgery and many are not happy with the result and experience no boost of confidence long term

However, i think thats down to blown up expectations more than anything

Dont go to bolivia or smth like that - hear too many bad things about people doing this on the cheap. Expect to pay 1 - 3K GBP.

If you think it will resolve some insecurity for you, then why not? I personally think that your nose is unique, and that you should just own it. Why be a common denominator?

I think as long as you have realistic expectation (the result may not be perfect and doesn't automatically give you friends or popularity) it can help to boost your self-esteem and increase your confidence.

It's really only you that is able to say, if it's the right solution for you. Also, try to think carefully through the financing (also in the event that something unexpected happens) and choose the surgeon well, if you do go with the idea.

Good luck :)

I think its also important to note that looks and a persons look are different. You can always try new hair style, facial hair, new clothes, lifting some weights and all those things. They can really pay off more than surgery because they involve direct effort and building an identity you like. No surgery in the world can do that.
