Dream about killing my daughter

I had a dream that I turned my daughter into a frog and because she was finished with a certain level of education, I killed the frog with a rock. I didn't feel bad about it until my wife entered the dream and became sad and angry.

I think I remember there being a son who was more mature than my daughter. See, I felt my daugjter's progress had ended and it was time to start fresh with another kid; enter my son.

It's one of those dreams that is going to stick with me for a while.

What. The. f**k.

If it bothered you enough to post it here, then maybe you need to talk it out a bit more with someone?

I must confess that I'm inclined to ask the same question but, not being a parent myself, I have no idea what parental dreams are like so maybe this is a question for those of us who have actually raised children.

Dreams are often filled with symbols that mean other things. Dreaming of killing your daughter does not necessarily mean that you want her to die. I would say that this dream may symbolize the fact that it would please you for some aspect of her personality to die, such as her moving through a certain milestone. And the fact that her mother was grieving, might mean that she would miss the way her daughter was, before crossing the milestone. The fact that she became a male child, might denote her reaching a level of independence usually associated in your mind with being male. Dreams are funny that way!

When I was about nine years old, I dreamed that I saw my cat playing with something underneath the bed. When I went to investigate, I saw that it was my mother's head, all bloody. It was an awful dream which haunted me for a long time. But as I learned to decode dream symbols, I realized that children often have bad dreams like that about their parents because it is suppressed anger of the child's. Hope this helps!

I think that you really need to talk to someone about the feelings that you have towards your daughter.

Of course you can go all Freudian on this and do dream analysis...

... or you can dismiss it as a one-off weird dream that doesn't mean anything and maybe stuck in your head for being quite scary.

Have you had any other dreams or things happened along those lines?

I seriously cant believe some folks are thinking the dream means I don't love my daughter or want to harm her. I'm more likely to believe the "that could mean other things" aspect than I secretly want to hurt her.

So, I wonder what characteristics about frogs my daughter possesses that I want to eliminate. Maybe her fondness for jumping on things. Maybe her fear of certain noises or something.

It should also be mentioned that I'm currently taking Chantix in an attempt to quit smoking. One of the side effects is strange dreams.

Dreams always seem to be a mix of things on your mind in the waking world and bizarre nonsense. Your daughter was somehow on your mind prior to the dream but it could have been in any context. If something catches your concious or subconcious attention today, that can appear in your dream tonite.

So all it meant was your daughter was on your mind at some point.

Recurring dreams can indicate a more lasting feeling.

I know a few people who tried Chantax and they had f****d up dreams too.

I'd say because your daughter changed into a frog, the dream is symbolic of something.

It's only a jumble of nonsense picked up from waking life. I wouldn't look to deeply into it.

Normally its your daughter who is supposed to kiss a frog and turn him into a handsome prince.

That is frogs/toads are often symbolic of an undesireable person - who then transform into something desireable- in dreams and in myths.

But in this dream you turned your daughter INTO a frog. Then squashed her.

Maybe- you're uncomfortable with your daughter becoming a sexaully desireable young woman- so you wish to symbolically turn her INTO a frog. You cant deal with her being lusted for by guys. Or something like that.

Just a thought.

I do not think it means anything. It is too weird to have any meaning.

I sometimes have some very strange dreams (for example, one dream involved a fancy party in a mansion that was invaded by a yellow dinosaur who could kill anybody who looked at his face). I am certain they actually have no meaning. Just random images and concepts mixed by your sleepy brain.
