Confused sort of upset.

Hi fellow Aspies. I feel hopeless somewhat. I can't even open a can of green beans! DAMN DUMB can opener and microwavable food I don't stir correctly so it doesn't taste right!! !! I love my parents but they confuse me to no end. I DO live under there roof YES! But they give mixed messages. From one day "OMG! Clean your room WHY are you playing a video game! Or OMG! Why do you choose today to study while we are cleaning house!! !!" (I'm in college getting a Bachelor in Criminal Justice BTW) Yet some days my dad is nice Oh so all you did was dishes/laundry ok from that to OMG! ALL YOU DID WAS DISHES LAUNDRY! The OMG! play videogames to shockingly "Hey you seem bored why don't you go play a video game? (While I was walking around getting house chores done!) UH! They throw off VERY mixed messages!! !! !


I get super involved in a book as I was a few summers ago and just had to finish the last few chapters since it was getting good. "YOU ARE BEING OBSESSIVE STOP THAT'S NOT NORMAL!! !" (From my mom).

They can't accept I'm NOT normal! Some days they can some they can't my 13 yr. sister sees me as childish I like MLP:FIM while honestly I think her OMG! One Direction interest is s**t! Her schooling yo-yos from A's-F's week to week so it's a yelling fight! That gets on my nerves!

Also! I CAN'T BRING UP SCIENTIFIC DATA! SPANKING IS WRONG! ALL THE DATA SAYS IT ETC.! OVER AND OVER! Mom: Oh they've researched plenty of stuff and it has turned out not to be true. IMO THEY NEED TO MAKE SPANKING LIKE RACISM and have it be OMG! TABOO! to spank a child to where it's abuse and YOU LAND IN JAIL! I'm going on 27 and sadly don't think I'll see it in my time. But I'd like to happen to spanking what happen to civil rights!! !! African American free to live together etc. Spanking! That was "normal" back in my day but now (AKA when my nephew or his kids get older) IT'S ILLEGAL AND DOWN RIGHT EVIL to spank your kids and unheard of AND YOU LAND IN JAIL!


I hope things end up getting better for me. I have a hard time diving into my work (Studies) when I get negative remarks like that. Thanks for at least listening WP.

Parents often want what is best for their children and will distort reality in whatever way they see fit, often distorting the same reality multiple different ways on multiple different occasions, in order to achieve this goal. This often resort in much confusion and irrlogic.

I concur with your assertion that physical punishment has been scientific proven to be less effective and more deleterious to a child's health than positive reinforcement. Parents, however, rely on conventionality to feel secure about their abilities as parents and will thus will be very reluctant to alter their perception of that convention.

Thanks. In the U.S. it's not illegal and it's not seen as barbaric sadly. I agree they conform to what they know not wanting to change. The book reading was upsetting "Stop it that's not normal" When I'm just getting into a really good book and wanted to finish it. I believe due to negative comments such as that I haven't been my obsessive self. Never heard of "goalposts" I HATE IT! One day "Go play a videogame" the other OMG! ALL YOU DID IS PLAY VIDEOGAMES TODAY! It's confusing to my Aspie brain that doesn't understand there logic AT ALL!! !! !! !

It's just about to the point why bother mentioning research at all. They have great paying jobs (don't get me wrong!) but are better off street smart than book smart and will denounce the data/research sadly.
