This year marks a turning point in my life as I am going to move into my own place. I am looking forward to this alot since i can get away from an archaic home life into a space I can call my own. But, at the same time I am also worried and scared of the new life style and the new responsibilities i will have. I know there will be expenses to pay and seeing how i don't have a job as of yet (This i am working on) is not making my situation any easier. I am cutting back on alot of things in order to save up for the. "brunt of the storm"

I wanna hear from all the aspies out there who are living on their own experiences and tricks on how you manage living on your own. Is it easy/hard. Any experiences would help me out alot. Thanks

Moving into your own place means you can set a theme for your apartment. I have Asian and African decorations on my walls. I used to have my 12 guitars on display but I've since put them away. I just keep my bass by my side just for riffing on every now and then. I can cook what I want without reprisal. This means I can eat exotic meats without being put down. I get to dress like a bum all day, not shave, and not worry about people pestering me about keeping the kitchen sink clean or my bed made up. Yeah, it'd be nice to have someone else to lean on for the rent or to have company now and then, but that's another issue.

Keep a calendar in a prominent place where you can always see it:
Mark important dates on the calendar as soon as you know about them: when rent is due, when certain bills are due, when the trash goes out, etc., etc.

Purchase only what you need - for example, you have to have water and heat and power and internet, possibly phone, but I could never justify the added expense of cable television.
I like watching the same movies over and over again, so that's helpful to me, whereas with some people it would be a problem.

Do you know how to cook? If not, get a cookbook or, better yet, have a friend or family member show you some easy recipes.

I don't do well on a schedule, but you might. If so, have certain days that you do laundry, certain days that you go shopping for food, etc., etc.

These are things that helped me when I first moved out - I'll try to post more as I remember them.

Hell, I thought I was just weird. ;-)

i can (obviously) come off as really abrupt and my tone can sound sharpish, so feel free to ask me to clarify

I look forward to doing laundry, chores and the like at my place. For some reason it clams me down coz i know i am looking out for my own. It is just paying the bills that is gonna get me down. I love going to sci-fi conventions and boy to like to bleed my wallet dry when I go to these things. I am gonna cut back on them this year since I am gonna move into my own place and it will be the best yet hardest choice I am gonna make. I am gonna be MY own decorator for once. I got loads of art I have collected over the years that i wanna put up and I cant wait till I do.
