This is becoming really hard! I was started on fluoxetine a few weeks ago and it was amazing how big an impact it made to how I felt. Then this week my special nterest has gone into ultimate drop out and with it so have my great moods, I've started to worry about things all over again and feel down sometimes which I wasn't doing with my special interest being stronger. I feel really fed up because this time round my special interest has enjoyed jumping all over the place and I never know if in ten minutes time it's going to make a miraculous come back or if its going to totally fade away. I need the security!
I also feel bad since I was writing a story based round my interest and I have at least quarter the enthusiasm for that stor now that I did only last weekend, in fact last Monday I was dying to keep going and to write the next bit, now I just feel guilty. I wish my SI's didn't have to rule my life as much as they do, the effect with the medication has certainly agreed with that, does anyone have any ideas! Really Bugs me and I'm coming up to exams soon I can't afford to be so unmotivated!

Unfortunate for some the full effects of the drugs don't show right away. The dose might be to high talk to you doctor tell him or her whats going on.

SSRI's only dull and numb your mind, and the symptoms of depression/anxiety etc.
I was told to try several of them, and all they did was make me feel like a robot.
The only true way out of depression or whatever it is you're struggling with is to face the issue head-on unfortunately.
That's not always easy, and the SSRI's help you get to a 'stable' level where you can move forward into those challenges - but they will dull your mind and senses. I personally can't stand them and believe they should only be used in cases where someone is on the verge of suicide (even though some of them cause suicidal behavior)...
There are much more mindful and peaceful ways out of depression, google is your friend.

I haven't read this (I had already studied Buddhism/meditation by the time it was pointed out), but I've heard good things.

Also, if you're feeling depressed or on these medications, it's quite normal (in my country anyway) to have an exam postponed until you're able to think clearly again. It's well documented that these medications cause 'cloudiness' of thought or whatever they call being doped up.

I would suggest a slightly different approach if I may.

Sign up for self-defense classes. Judo or Aikido.

It may not be a special interest but there is something innate to getting your body working on focused tasks. Martial arts that focus on using your opponent's strengths against them keep your mind and body prep'd up.

Its good for you (exercise and you learn self-defense)
Its healthy.
Its good socially for those of us with awkward socializing skills.
It may lead to new special interests. When I took Judo in my late teens it became an interest to learn more advanced techniques from other disciplines. Pressure points and nerve centers were just incredibly fascinating to me. I was forced to learn judo initially and I hated it but when I got up to second 'belt' I was loving it.

...and if you're into anime or japan chances are your instructor will be from Japan (if you find a good place to learn) and you can learn japanese and learn where to get some hard to find/get stuff. :)
