Well, so much for me walking to the tanning bed. It's not but about 1/4 mile away but I don't want to get caught in the rain. It hasn't started raining yet and radar doesn't show anything near here but it's cloudy and storms are popping up all over West Alabama right now. I don't want to get rained on, my daughter took the umbrella with her to school.

Today is supposed to be the first day of severe weather in this tornado season. By afternoon it's supposed to be bad. Lovely.

I guess I can walk to the tanning bed tomorrow, the little bit of color I have won't fade before then I'm sure.

Schools are closing at noon now because of the bad weather coming. Hopefully my oldest daughter will come on home from college, she's got a late afternoon class today that I'd just rather her skip because of this bad weather and the long drive she has to make to come home in it.

That must be worrisome! Can you contact your daughter and urge her to come home early?

I'm talking to her on FB. She's in between classes right now. Tuscaloosa schools are closing so the college probably will too. I think she will come on home, she's pretty smart about being cautious of the weather.

My son is getting let out of school at 1. I should be more scared of tornados but I'm not. I just hope the power doesn't go out for a long time. A couple of years ago it was out for 3 days. :x After Katrina it was out for a week but we didn't have a whiny, scared 2-year-old to wrangle then.

Ours was out for several days after those bad ones a couple years ago. I'm hoping we don't get anything like that again. You know about every 20 years or so a tornado takes out the city I live in don't you? It's overdue from what I understand. Oh well, lucky for us we have this well built Jim Walter home to protect us </sarcasm> There is a tornado shelter up by the walking track but I don't know if we are gonna go up there or not.

The University is closing, now we are just waiting for her school to close. It's going to, I mean everything else is. I think she should just come on home.

Daughter is on her way home but there are tornadoes on the ground in Mississippi, right near the Alabama line. Gonna be a bad weather day I guess.

Thank you, we gonna try. It's times like these when I wish I had tv here. James Spann radar is on the 33/40 site but it's nothing like watching him live. This is gonna sound crazy but I love watching a good ole severe weather event when James is on live coverage and stays on the air till its over with. He knows every tree and dirt road in West Alabama and he can tell you where the tornado is in relation to that. I once heard him say it was about to cross over by where somebody or other used to have pastureland and he knew the guys name! Now that's dedication. I'll actually watch anybody's weather if James is on there live telling me about it.

Well it's on live. Here's a link to the streaming video.

James Spann came to Simmons Middle School when I was in 8th grade. He looks exactly the same all these years later. I wonder if there's a painting of him up in his attic all wrinkly and old.

He sent me a note when I wrote a piece for the Bham Times, years ago about tornado safety. I wrote for them for about six months, an op-ed column. (Not the Bham News - I wish!) It was the usual spring "pay attention to the weather because it can change really fast and even though nothing has hit here before it may hit here this time" type piece. I had mentioned him in the column, so that's probably how he found out about it, somebody on their staff saw it and told him cause you know he don't read the Bham Times. Anyway he thanked me for reminding people to be safe and said it was a good piece. I gave my mother his note and she's still got it. She loves her some James Spann!

You know he's the reason that Heilman didn't show the coming out episode of "Ellen" way back then don't you? He's a big time Baptist and said if it was shown he would quit. Him and that other one, the blonde one that had cancer. Brenda Ladun I think.

I was on his public FB a while back and there were people on there actually requesting weather. No shinola! People asking for nice weather for spring break. ROFL!
