Well you all know I was on Welbutrin for a while. It makes you forget a lot. I may have actually posted about this problem and forgotten too. If so, sorry. I'm still on Welbutrin. Or should I say back on Welbutrin. I had forgotten doses and then forgotten I had forgot and although I have a very high tolerance for things I know it lowers your seizure threshold so I didn't take the chance on doubling up. Anyway, I had forgotten about half a months worth, so now I have this new way of keeping track but I have the insomnia part again. This is my third night without sleep and it's no fun without speed. In fact it's freaking torture. Tired but can't sleep. I've drank a pint of whiskey (still sober too- thank you Welbutrin!) and taken 100mg Benadryl. I do not like pot and a bong hit would just make me horribly paranoid for hours so that's out.

I'm thinking of raffeling off tickets to let people come hit me in the head with a hammer.

Try 1 mg of melatonine 30-60 min before going to sleep. I have mild insomnia due to the ADHD, that was aggravated because the SSRIs (Lexapro) and it was getting worse now the summer is comming and daylight lasts longer. It is working really well for me, prescription is not needed, it's very cheap, and it's not dangerous nor addictive or whatever (because it's just the chemical susbstance that body uses to regulate sleep cycles).

PS Damn! I sounded as a salesman. Anyway, melatonine is not a brand, but the chemical hormone. There will be several brands in any drugstore.

PS2 Anyway, I would try with the hammer too. Just in case

I second the Melatonin approach. I take 3-5 mg myself, all have the same effect. The thing is, you should be ready for sleep, ready to relax. Also, if you wake up while you're on it you'll be a bit groggy. I don't know about anyone else who has taken it but if I'm woken up by my restless leg syndrome or something or some other form of my limbs being spastic I tend to be extremely freaked out to the point of my heart racing and sometimes I'll hear something quickly that doesn't sound like it should be in my room or see for a split second something disturbing. I assume this is part of me waking out of REM sleep though and try not to think too much into it...

I've tried melatonin. What people don't get is that I don't need something to help me gently to sleep. Midgets can swim in my liver ok? 100 mg seroquil, "Dude, I'm I don't know, can't feel". 5 1mg Klonipns "Dude, I'm I don't know. I'm calm though". A pint of whiskey and 50mg Benadryl "Eh, come on, something PLEASE!

Sleep eludes me and is hating on me. Someone catch sleep and bring me it's head on a platter!

The best sledgehammer-to-the-head insomnia drug I've ever taken is Remeron/mirtazepine. It tends to cause hunger and weight gain, though.

The second best was doxepin, but it has "old-school"/anticholinergic side effects and tends to cause hunger/weight gain. I was taking a ridiculous dose of that, though (150mg).

Amitriptyline would be the third, with the same side effects.

The last one has held me for aboout 4 years, so far.

I wish I could get some Ambien. That works so great for me. The only problem is that I wake up 4 hours afterwards and can't get back to sleep. I'd like to try the new Ambien CR though. If it works for 6 to 8 hours then it would be perfect for me. I've tried Lunesta but it doesn't work at all.

I've never tried Remeron, but the doc tried putting my mother on it for depression and she wouldn't take it. It was just too strong. She didn't even try it and threw it out after getting it filled. If I had thought about it I would have gotten her to give it to me, but at the time neither of us thought about that. The Elavil is something I've tried before and it doesn't really make me sleepy though.

Eventually my body gets used to the Welbutrin and I can sleep fine, but it's always hard for the first few weeks. I just hope I don't start forgetting to take it again and end up having to go through this over and over. It also gives me headaches at first too, but I can usually manage that with Tylenol and Naprosyn, although if it gets too bad my mother gives me a couple of her 5mg Lortab that she won't take either. She only takes a half of one and only if she's hurting really bad, because she's very sensitive to meds and it's just too strong for her.
