Tornadoes Suck
yesterday started being an awesome day. My birthday was teh 15th and we went to eat pizza that day but yesterday was my designated celebration day. We all had off so me and my fam went out to the movies. We saw Iron Man 3, which was great. We ate at Fuddrockers(sp) and had ice cream at Cold Stone (I had lactaid pills for that yayness).
And shopped a bit after that. Well that evening a friend called us concerned because a tornado had gone by where we live!
Okay the worst did not happen, House is intact. But we have no electricity. So last night we had to spend the night in a hotel room, which totally sucked because it was well, a hotel room! It smelled weird, we did not have the hand soap I normally use, we had to pack an overnight bag in the dark, the tap was leaky, I could her traffic outside. Suffice it to say, I slept crappily. Today we still have no power and SWEPCO is saying we may not until ten pm tonight!
I hope we do not end up in another hotel for the night. They had no WiFi!
At least I am at the library right now.

I live in West Alabama. On April 27, 2011 we had a stormy day. We had lots of tornadoes. In my area 64 people were killed and it caused about $2.2 billion dollars in damage. Many people still do not have homes and many businesses have not been rebuilt. Cleanup is still going on in some areas. My family was without power for a week. We took our frozen meat up to the large bbq grill at the city hall and cooked it and gave it away to those who didn't have anything otherwise. Better than it spoiling, huh? There were no hotels with vacancies near here to go to, our local one had no power either and the others were all booked up. It was hot. It was dark. After we cooked the meat we were kind of hungry and ate cold canned food. Like everybody else.
I am very sorry your tornado experience was so horrible. I just cannot imagine having to stay in a room that smelled bad. A leaky faucet and the wrong hand soap and on top of that no wifi, that must have been pure hell. I hope you are ok now and manage to live through this aweful tragedy. The tornado has caused so much damage to you that I think you should probably apply to FEMA for some kind of reimbursement.
I'm sorry but after the tornado devastation that we recently went through, I simply had no patience for this. I was grateful to be alive and have my family alive and my house still standing after what happened all around me.
I'm sure many of those who lost loved ones and homes and businesses in the April 2011 tornado here would give their right arm to only have to stay in a hotel room a few nights.

took down the video, cause I'm sure I'll be banned for pointing out the difference between inconvenience and death and destruction of everything you hold dear, oh, kinda like we went through two years ago here.
But though, even without anything like lights, WIFI!! !! ! hand soap, etc, those of us who lived through it counted ourselves lucky. As should the OP.

I was in one when I was about 11,it was Easter Sunday. Then half the street was gone, real quick. We didn't have the sirens then.It just got real dark and then,POW.
I'm about three hours as the crow flies from Joplin,Mo.That's the first year I REALLY wanted a storm cellar.I saw one funnel cloud go over here, and some friends house got hit and they lost all their beautiful shade trees, plus house damage. But they were o.k.,and that's what mattered.I'm kind of fascinated by them,I go outside and look when I should be under a mattress.I'd love to chase one.

Well, anytime one is coming, that's what everybody does here. One or two people keep the kids inside or in the basement and everybody else goes outside to look, till it gets dangerous.
I've just erased a very facetious comment about hand soap and traffic vs half the block being gone.
MissIzz, go watch that video. Them kids did pretty good I think. The ones dong it are kids who come here a lot and who I've known since they were knee high to a fence post.

to the OP - sorry uncomfortable things happened on your birthday celebration day. please ignore olive oil mom. there will always be someone who has it better than you and someone who has it worse. it's hard to remember that when you are sleep-deprived. I hope things get back to normal quickly.

Yes, ignore me and anyone who tries to give the OP a little PERSPECTIVE. Or do we just buy into the "this is the worst thing ever" idea? I know that when I'm down I like to have a little perspective.
Oh, forget the dead. Lets worry about traffic and hand soap! God forbid people are INCONVENIENCED!
YOU LIVE where tornadoes come through yearly and kill people and THEN you tell me CathyLynn! YOU Watch places you loved be gone in an hour, you see people dying, people without homes and then you get back to me with your "ignore OOM, it's so sad for you" BS!! !!
Warn me all you want, but this s**t PISSES ME OFF when people near me DIED from this kind of thing!! !! !! !! !! !

Whoa, Olive!
I get where you're coming from - your experience seems to have been more traumatic than the OP's, but that in no way diminishes the trauma that she went through, either. People would probably do well to sit back, take a deep breath, and count the blessings they still have, rather than criticize anyone for sharing what they've been through.
Out here in Cali, we're a few months into the brushfire season. I personally know two families that lost everything except their lives and the clothes on their backs. They know people who lost their live in or because of the fires.
It's a terrible thing to have to endure - I lost my home and family to divorce, which does not even begin to compare to the losses you and the OP have experienced.
Best wishes to you all!

Fnord, I did not experience loss, I experienced inconvenience. The difference is, I did not see my inconvenience as such a huge deal when compared with others loss.
Did you have friends who lost nothing except a little conveience whine about it while others you knew lost property and had people lose lives? If so, how would you feel about hearing someone whining about wifi when you drive through destruction daily?
I suppose I'm wrong. After all, it's just some rednecks who lost their lives and properties. What is it? A tornado came through West Alabama and did 10 billion dollars worth of improvements? Isn't that the joke? Cause yeah, we are expendable, and those that count whine over hotel f*****g rooms!
I'm done here!

I lived through the top ones. Many did not. Many would give their left nut to be able to only have to stay in that bottom one with their loved ones! Maybe you should get perspective too. I LIVED THROUGH THIS! I'm not just bringing up some crap I read about on the internet!! !! !! !! THIS IS HERE!

They used to tell people to hurry and open their windows so your house wouldn't explode, boy was that a crock. And all the other old stories, tornado won't cross water, they don't happen after dark, they don't happen in the rain, they don't hit mountainous areas. All bull. They do usually go from the SW to the NE,one stayed on the ground for a hundred miles.
I stopped at that evil Mal Wart one day and while I was in there everyone got real excited on their cell phones,a tornado warning with one headed our way.I went out and loaded my groceries and a little Mal Wart employee waddled out and told me it was a code black and I needed to get back in the store.I declined and drove off,I'm not dying in there.I headed for a bar that has an underground parking garage, much safer and there was booze and food.It was fun driving thru town, everyone was in hiding so I just went thru all the red lights. And the tornado never hit the store,it was satisfied with taking out a few barns.
There are remote places here where they touch down and no one knows. My son was hiking and went into a remote valley that had been thrashed, the trees were twisted and it looked like a giant brush hog had went thru there. So of someone says they won't go into a valley, wrong.
I have a NOAH radio now,but no cellar. And a GIANT tree that shades my house,if it lands on the house,I'm toast. It's that big of a tree,it shades the whole house.
But I don't think anyone can comprehend what a tornado does till you see it.
My Aunt said one pocked up a whole herd of cows and dropped them in the next field, they all lived.Pine needles stuck into a tree trunk, roof took of houses but magazines left untouched on the coffee table inside. We never did find the neighbors roof.Cars picked up and set down upside down in their parking place. And that poor boy in Joplin sucked out of the sun roof of the vehicle.
My elderly Aunt told a funny story about her neighbors, every time a storm came up they would put on their Sunday best and lay in their beds, they were already to be laid to rest just on case a Tornado hit. ![]()

I certainly wouldn't think you would bring that up when they were saying they were having a bad day. However if somebody started a thread that says "Being beaten and raped sucks!" and says that somebody punched them in the arm and goosed them on the bottom and therefore they are sooooo upset, I'd imagine you would chime in! I never said s**t about the tornadoes like this till somebody said it first!
Perspective! It's about different things! Who would have thought!! !!
