Annoying sister
My sister, who is 10 years my elder, has always been trying to force her will down on me. She reads a couple articles about Asperger's and says she understands but then tries to get me live like her. She is at her worst now because I want to get a pet scorpion and she complains about it about it not being affectionate, or that it is not a cat or a dog or that it's carnivorous; without realizing that I am not her, I don't care about cuddling; to me, it's a fascinating creature.
Last year in college; she lectured me about how I should be on schedule while I was visiting; full knowing that I would have to leave early next in order to book exam for the day after. The next day, I get a text from asking if I wouldn't stay another day. So basically, she sings a cute little song then the next day, changes her opinion for her own selfish reasons.
She also complained about the lifespan of the pets that I want to get, asking what I will do with them if I get children. I nearly told her how much her eldest son annoys the hell out of me and that I don't ever want to have kids. And it's not like I will have my animals run around the house like she does with hers. Heck, I even bought extra locks for the cages.
I normally value other people's opinions on a matter, except hers. She usually sleeps over when they visit because she can't stand her mother in law; but sometimes, I feel that I should just tell her to go spend the night at our brother's house (I live in a small apartment, he lives in a house five minutes away from me)
She says it's wrong for me to feed mice to my snake and how it's wrong to take an animal life for food. All the while, she is the first at the dinner table at barbeques and her husband's best friend is the town butcher. I nearly told her, that until she goes vegetarian, then she can complain about my animals, until then she can go ****** herself. Usually, when she gets like that, I'll ask her what was that t-bone on her plate before they bought it; but for some reason, it is not as bad when humans do it, who can choose what they eat, when a carnivorous animal does it, who has no choice.

Oh, by the way, I'm getting an emperor scorpion tomorrow ![]()

Wow, your sister sounds like a REAL genius.
She says owning a meat-eating pet is wrong but doesn't have a problem with "cute and cuddly" pets like cats and dogs, which are also meat-eaters? You have to feed them meat, it's the way nature made them, if you tried to put them on a vegetarian diet they would suffer and die. And that's why it's not wrong to feed mice to a snake, it's just another reason why stupid people think snakes are "evil". But when most people have firmly made up their mind about something there is really nothing you can say or do to change their beliefs. Seriously, I would love it if I could see my brother on at least a weekly basis, I haven't seen him for maybe two years. If I get to see him if and when he comes home in August it'll be a miracle. Why are the people we love and care about the ones who always end up leaving?
Anyway, good luck with your new scorpion. Maybe she'll be too scared of it to come by and annoy you any more. ![]()
I keep trying to tell her that it's the way nature works, and she spouted off "Well, humans don't kill each other to eat each other!"
Apparently, a snake eating a mouse is cannibalism
. I honestly don't know where she got this attitude about animals from; our dad was a major hunter and we use to have rooms full of trophies. Heck, our dad even forced her to shoot her own antelope. All the men in my family have gun licences for hunting rifles; her husband went on a hunting trip just 2 weeks ago.
EDIT: My brother though is being very supportive, he even wants to go with me tomorrow to get the scorpion

I think in her mind, she thinks it's okay because cats and dogs usually eat food processed by humans and it is not recognizable as animal where as my animals need to take it live; but her old cat use to take birds all the time and eat in front of her (little vindictive). She seriously once drove around an earthworm that was in the middle of the road. To me, she is like one of those people who say they love animals and nature but can't be bothered to learn about them. All she wants to see is a lioness playing with her cub and ignores the fact that that lioness will take some creatures life (sometimes human life) to feed said cub.
