I've been here for a couple months, and I thought I'd fit in. Apparently, I'm not as welcome here as I thought. Whenever I have an opinion on something, I am often either criticized or corrected. When it's the latter, I didn't know most of the time; I mean, I'm just as human as the rest of the WPers here. Also, hardly anyone ever comments on my art I post, meaning they don't care about it, or they think it's bad and didn't tell me. Am I that bad of an artist?

I don't even know if I can deal with this anymore...

Don't take arguing and constant disagreement personally. It's just what people with AS do; it's not any reflection on you. :)

I've been a member since '08 and between a forum interface only a mother would love and the TRYING to live a life, I have not even a thousand posts to my name. That being said, I've run into some grumpy people here. However, you'll find that anywhere.

witch's cat,

I've noticed that you tend to give positive, helpful advice.

I've never seen any posts of your artwork. i'm online off and on and probably just missed it.

sorry you're having a bad time of it here.

It can take a long time for anyone to find their place here. I think it took me about a year or somewhat.
After about 3 or so months I was still in the same position that you are now, it's a normal part of the process.

Correcting is what we do - it's about accuracy and the truth, it's nothing personal. Some of my favourite members are the ones who correct me or disagree with me the most.

I haven't seen your artwork. But the people who tend to get the most comments in that regard seem to be exceptionally good.
Do you post your artwork because you want people to like your artwork, or do you post it hoping to get comments to help you improve as an artist?
I've noticed that those who are really, really interested in the latter seem to get more comments, even if they're not that good.

^ My artwork is posted in the Display Your Artwork Thread in the Art, Writing, and Music forum here. I post my work because I am interested in the latter, like you said.

I don't notice a lot of aggressive criticism outside of PPR or threads that have derailed into 3+ pages of argument, which I rarely visit.

When a poster responds to someone else's posts disagreeing with them I think it's more about discussion than anything else. If all anyone says on a forum is that they agree instead of expanding on or offering an alternative viewpoint it stifles discussion. It's part of other forums I'm on, too, and it's typically not an example of ill will towards another poster until the name-calling starts.

There are a lot - a lot! - of artists and writers online trying to be seen, and not everyone is interested in the subject. It can be very hard to get noticed, and it's not necessarily something that reflects on the artist. A website devoted to displaying artwork and connecting artists and viewers might bring more responses. Some of them even have groups where members submit specific kinds of art and viewers can look for it there.

WP members may or may not be interested in art at all. I only look for art and writing online instead of other activities when I'm in the mood for something specific, such as wanting to see what sci-fi artists have come up with after seeing a good sci-fi film. I don't know anything about art technique to offer artists, though.

A lot of the people on here that are not in your situation have been users longer. It takes a while, I suppose.

I've already identified a few people that, when I see them in a thread, I avoid it like the plague. These people, no matter what you say or do, will argue with you and try to negate everything you post. I'm guessing they're probably Borderline Personality Disorder and will never change their negative ways.

I'm trying not to sound hateful/horrible here because I mean it kindly.

What do you expect of a site made just for the most annoying people on earth?
Yes that includes me, I know I'm annoying I can't help that, I know that my stuff sounds angry even when I'm happy.
That's also inherent in textish stuff.

On the other hand, if you're "often either criticized or corrected" rather than simply insulted, that means you and your thoughts are RESPECTED enough to garner true consideration, mental run-time, and keyboard wear. And if other aspies suck at presenting another viewpoint -that they may merely be (trying) offering for consideration (perhaps sometimes not argument)- well that's hardly a reflection on YOU. =)

But here I am, just like everyone else disagreeing with you yet again. I'm sorry. =(
Would you rather that I did agree with you this time? U suck, we hate u, ur worng!!11!1!!

+1. A very brash but valid point.

When an opinion is presented, I think it's healthy to challenge it sometimes. It's not meant as a criticism, or an attack on the opinion holder at all. Sometimes a line of questioning is the only way I'm going to be able to try to understand where exactly the other person is coming from. Text is a bit of a sparse communication, even with the emoticons to soften things up sometimes.

Hugs for WitchsCat, Alex, and everyone else who needs one... :flower:

what bothers me, witch's cat, is when I take a lot of time to post a reply and there's no response at all.
