Hey, does anybody here use the adult autism waiver here in Pennsylvania. From the looks of it, it seems like it may or may not be geared towards Aspies, but I'd like to know what kind of services I can get from it.

I don't use the waiver, but work for an agency that is a service provider via the waiver. You can find more information on available services and eligibility on BAS' website, if you Google that. Unfortunately, I think applicants are being wait-listed at this time, but hopefully more slots will become available in the future.

Basically, the goal behind waiver programs in general and the reason the government funds them is to keep people out of nursing homes or institutions, since community-based care is so much less expensive for taxpayers and better, in terms of quality of life, for the people receiving that care. So, that said, eligibility for these types of programs usually depends upon people having difficulties with their self-care that are significant enough that they are at risk for being institutionalized unless they can receive services through the waiver intended to keep living in their own homes. There are also financial eligibility requirements and you have to be eligible for and/or already enrolled in Medical Assistance.

Was there a specific service you were looking for or are you just looking for general info? Is it an urgent situation? (I notice you posted this in The Haven).
