I know a 21-year-old girl who has had both her mum and her dad die from cancer within the space of about 2 years. It has kind of freaked me out, and now my mum has announced that she keeps feeling a lump in her stomach and is having a lot of other troubles with her stomach, she can't feel lumps from the outside, she only feels a lump from inside, when she eats. Also my aunt has been having trouble with her ovaries and has just gone for a blood test, now they have urgently sent an appointment for her to see the doctor. I'm hoping that's nothing serious, and I wish my mum would get to the doctors too to see about her stomach but she keeps leaving it and just hoping it's stress. Also my mum's heart keeps palpitating really bad to the point where she feels unwell, and says that if it goes on for longer than 10 minutes then she'd have to get an ambulance. Then my closest friend keeps saying she has problems with her throat, and throat cancer runs in her family, but she's got herself so depressed that she says she doesn't want treatment, and she has this ''there's nothing they can really do'' attitude, and when I try to tell her that they can do something for throat cancer if she gets it checked before it's too late, but she argues with me and says there isn't, because nothing could save her relatives who died of it. It then makes me feel emotional.

I f*****g HATE cancer, it seems to be getting more and more common, and I'm so scared of losing people. I feel alone, isolated and insecure as it is, and I can't cope with other things like work as it is, I just can't cope with all these worries and stresses. I know I'm going to lose my relatives one day anyway but that's not the point, I thought I will cross that bridge when I come to it, and I didn't think it would be this soon. I really cannot live in this life any more, and I cannot cope with relatives and friends dying. My mum and my aunt might both have cancer and both die at the same time. And my dad's not exactly the healthiest man in the world either, he smokes, drinks, has asthma, and is getting on for 60. I just can't cope with anything, what am I going to do? I'm going to be so alone in this world, my future is bleak, I can't get a boyfriend because they're all married to f*****g b*****s what won't fall out of love with them, I can't make friends, f**k my life why am I so unlucky?

Joe, try talking to your Mom. The worst thing she can do is put it off getting checked. If it was something serious then the earlier it is detected the better chance it can be treated. Do you know that some type cancers have a 90% successful treatment rate if caught early enough? Its not the kiss of death. Its just a serious illness that must be treated. So the best thing you can try to do is get your Mom (any any other family member in this situation) to the doctors. So whatever you can. Talk, plead beg.
