I have grown completely bored with "media culture". Movies, TV, games, music. It's all empty to me.
I'm not entertained by any of it. Fantasy is just fantasy, it produces nothing, it's not real. It's just something to occupy the attention.

What about Films and TV Shows that "tap into" Reality? Or does that appear close to the bone?

Not flippant, just a curious question from an aspiring filmmaker who genuinely wishes to make such hard-hitting and realised films.

That's because they are what I call commercial rubbish, and they mostly lack of substance. I started to feel like that regarding to the "media culture" as you call it long long time ago.

I regularly go through that, too. I can spend days catching up on a TV series I forgot about in my spare time, but I feel bad when I see that others have been able to make friends, build things, and more with that time while I have nothing to show for it. It wouldn't be such a big deal if my life were more fulfilling, I suppose, but that's not really the case.

I've spent more time writing and creating art instead of just reading and looking, which helps.

I think I need to get out more and experience the world first hand.
It's just that gasoline is so expensive, it comes down to feeding the car or feeding myself.
And my neighborhood is rather boring, plain old regular suburbia. Nothing to do within walking distance.
I suppose I could start looking for a new apartment closer into the city. It's a lot more interesting inside the city of Portland.

I have become far too used to watching tv at night and it has become a habit I need to break. Some years ago I stopped watching television for more than a year. I didn't even follow the news and I have to admit I didn't miss it at all. I went through several periods like that. There was a time that I didn't even own a television for several years and I suffered no negative consequences from that at all, on the contrary. I have recently started to reduce the number of hours I watch tv or at least make an attempt to do so.

I have nothing against watching tv and I certainly don't see television as some kind of modern day evil or something. I just think I should adjust myself to spend my time in a manner that is a bit more constructive for me personally. The least I can do is select the programmes l really like to watch and just switch the tv of when there isn't anything on it that interests me.

Yes, there are more things to do than being with the TV all the time. Nothing like the great outdoors and fresh air :D
