How do i stop obsessing about getting a gf so that:

1.) I'll actually GET one.

and...

2.) I'm not asking myself "   Why don't they like me   " 24 7?

If I could travel back in time to 1996 / 1997 and have a word with my former 16 year old self, I would impart the following advice:

1) Go out more.
2) Grow up.

to which I would reply:

w*ker! Who the F do you think you are talking to?

So maybe you shouldn't necessarily listen to my advice.

Seriously, if you're anything like me @ 16 then you won't be ready for a relationship just yet. Be patient and have good humour.
(I'm not suggesting you are like me but I can only speak from my experience)

Disclaimer: from reading this post back I think it may be misconstrued as insulting or condescending. It is not my intention to offend, please don't think that.

I have a strategy that is both depressing and effective:

1. Accept that you will not get a girlfriend and will be alone for the rest of your life. It's OK, plenty of people die alone.
2. Go places (preferably with friends) and talk to people on a casual basis--you accepted that you won't get a girlfriend, right?--now you have no pressure and there is nothing to screw up. Still talk to girls, but for the same reasons you would talk to guys.
3. Sooner or later a girl who is attracted to you will make it obvious (by NT standards at least). It might take a while, but it will happen.

I'm sure someone more capable than myself will have better advice, but this is the best strategy I have come up with. The most important thing is to be yourself, and you won't be yourself if you are trying to impress anyone.
