In the college town of Isla Vista, California six where killed and seven more where critically injured when a man went a drive by shooting rampage. I have yet to watch the video, but according to police just a few hours prior to the shooting a man posted a video to YouTube, with the same type of gun in his hand, talking about his plans to shoot several unspecified women.

Isla Vista is a college town adjacent to the University of Santa Barbara, and is only a county away from where I live. It's stuff like this that makes you realize people who have thoughts of mass murder can be anywhere.

I watched the video and I almost wish I hadn't. It seemed almost comical except for his actually doing it. I just feel sick.

I watched the video. I admit I have felt the same frustrations as him, but I wouldn't shoot anybody over it

When I watched the video I actually became less sickened by what he was talking about, and I got more frustrated at the comments people posted. It makes me think more and more that we should overhaul and re-diagnose the mental health of EVERYONE in the country.

EDIT: if you didn't read the comments most of them seem to try to have provoked him to do more. Some of the comments talk about how he should've raped, and tortured the women instead of just shooting them...

That's probably just 4chan trying to be edgy. I'm sure they'll have a field day with this over there.

I just wish they would have more respect, damn a**holes revile to much in there own in-humanity. I hate to admit, but a lot of the time I wish they (the antagonizes, and instigaters) where the ones who got shot instead. Yet to take away there opinions (and lives) though would just make me look like the a**hole. As much as I dislike that they do not respect our right to speak, I will respect theirs.

I couldn't watch the whole video. I kinda feel some of that but violence or hurting others isn't the answer.
I am frustrated and depressed by women, but i don't want to hurt them, well aside from my bad fantasy of winning the lotery and rejecting the ones that might swarm. But even that I feel is bad But can't control what fantasies come to mind but the actions or lack of them i do.

I feel sadden for the victims and hope those only wounded make recoveries. :(

The worst part? NBC Nightly News just revealed that the guy had Aspergers. There they go on a witch hunt on us again, all that does is make things worse for us. Media people need to learn to keep their damn mouths shut and stop trying to make things worse for us. All this does is set me back right back to where I started, feeling like I have no hope.

Just remind people that "Mass Media" is just a fancy word for "Tabloid Journalism," read up on the facts (like the fact there is no scientific link between aspergers and violence) and if any tries to argue with you then crush them in there arguments.

I am so upset that this monster had autism. I feel in my gut that some sort of Rubicon has been crossed. This is so going to stigmatize us. I feel like starting a condolensces thread, but that seems to trite given the circumstances.

I'm a forum populated by survivalists, generally right wing types, and some of them have watched this guy's videos and read his "manifesto", and they all think he was a sociopath and narcissist. I pointed out that aspies CAN'T manipulate people like this guy did, because we can't read body language. However, sociopaths can and do manipulate. Sociopaths thrive on manipulation.

This morning I noticed the shooting was dropped from the major headlines. local news is still talking about it, and they're downplaying the fact he had aspergers, and much of the focus has turned to mourning those who where killed. My brother-law is a sheriff and he claims that it was bad police work from the fact that the cops hadn't watched the video he posted, and the police did not recommend the kid for psych care anyways, like they're supposed to (at least that's the law here). My family and I also came to the conclusion that his parents wealth must've played a factor in the shooter not receiving the care he needed. The news didn't focus on it (probably cause the media was getting paid out of pocket to stay hush hush), but you'll notice most news articles mention "his family, and their lawyer." The kid's father was an assistant director for The Hunger Games, so my guess is that because the father didn't want in anyone in his ruthless business knowing his son was mentally ill, so he ignored the obvious fact his son was legitimate threat and just decided to let his psyche deteriorate. All I can hope is that the families and friends who have lost their loved ones will find peace and acceptance, but I also hope the family of the shooter finds solace in some shape or way.

First, just so deeply sorry for this horrific tragedy and wishing all the best for those who have suffered. I am sickened to read about such shootings in the states and the devastating aftermath. It's so hard to understand senseless brutality.

Geez......I'm with you on this one. The last thing the media needs to do just now is focus on this 'excuse' which just serves to slam into the AS community as a whole. How on earth can they possibly know that this guy had AS??? Certainly he was deeply disturbed and never received the support he needed, but no excuses now. Instead, I really wish everyone would pull together and concentrate on the families/friends who have witnessed and survived these senseless acts.

Yes. The media needs to stop focusing so much on the killer and shift more towards the friends and families of the victims, instead of glorifying the shooter under the guise of explaining their motives, and amplifying the violence. I believe that this just helps them turn into cultural icons, the message "if i shoot up my school, i'll be famous".

Everyone knows Elliot Rodger's name, where he was from and even what car he had. Who knows the names of the victims?

I hope the little bastard rots in Hell.

Along with the lawyer who immediately tried to use Asperger's as a defense. I really hope they spend eternity in a pit of smoking embers, anally raping each other with hot fire pokers.

Sorry but that's how I feel. I had to explain, AGAIN, to my grandmother that I am not going to "snap" and kill a bunch of people just because I have The Dread Disease. Last time, I had to explain it to my neighbor. I'll probably have to explain it to the two preschool parents who are even willing to speak to me at the park tomorrow.

One of these days, I am going to lose my right to self-determination in my own care. I am going to totally lose my right to keep and bear arms. I see forced institutionalization and sterilization, a la the 1930s, coming back. I have yellow-star nightmares.

AND IT IS THESE f**ktards' FAULT.

I can blame a lot of things. The media. Mass hysteria. sh***y old human nature.

But THESE f**ktards ARE THE ONES WHO GAVE THE BALL A GREAT BIG SHOVE.

I read a good chunk of his manifesto, primarily because we shared an obsession (WoW) and I was freaked out that I may have known him from the game (I knew a half asian guy with AS while playing).

I don't feel sorry for him, and I don't excuse what he did, but I have to admit I identify with the crushing isolation and loneliness he describes in writing. I've always been a loner and on the outside looking in.

But when I tried watching one of his videos I nearly vomited. They're disgusting.
