Can anyone describe to me how it typically affects a person? I mean, what if you upset someone with PS? My friend told me that she no longer uses her mobile phone now because it causes her headaches, so to use her landline instead. I hadn't replied to her texts for a month. I'm not sure if she's trying to get me to contact her or whether she really believes her mobile is giving her headaches. She's never complained of that before.

I don't know a great deal about this disorder but from what I know.. isn't it the one where the sufferer can have auditory or visual hallucinations? They might believe that people on television are sending secret messages to them or that mind control signals are being beamed out by governmental institutions. At work (if the sufferer has a job) they may irrationally believe that people are out to get them, for example - trying to poison their food.

To digress for a moment, I wonder what the diagnostic term is for people who like to go around diagnosing other people based on virtually nothing....hmmm...

Assuming much? To shut you up for a moment - my friend told me she is diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia.

Seriously, get off my back. If you have a problem with me - you tell me. You don't try to "get your own back" on me in another thread. That's childish.

I guess I can get why she doesn't want to use her mobile phone. Mobile phones, unlike landlines send some waves to the air. The waves are supposed to be save but some people say they can affect human body - for example make a boy unable to have children if the mobile phone is hold in a pocket or cause brain damage when hold near ear. Knowing this might cause psychosomatic headache for people prone to suggestion.

I had a dear, precious friend who was a paranoid schizophrenic. There was a question about his behavior at one point that should have been addressed, but we put it off. I am sure his behavior was totally innocent. Because of his fear of the question he became extremely delussional. Many people ended up terribly hurt, maybe most especially my friend. He is now deceased.

Bill used to spend most nights at our home. He said that was the only place that he did not hear the voices that told him terrible things about himself. When he would first walk into our home, he would say "Get lost," and he said he did not hear the voices again until after he left our home. I always imagine him lying on his kitchen floor dying, begging the voices to "Get lost," and them just laughing at him

Please try to talk to your friend because if they obsess too much over certain things, they come to conclussions that become real to them.

Thank you for the helpful responses people. It is really appreciated.

I don't want a friendship where I'm expected to give a lot back. I should've realised when she gave me those art supplies that it automatically carried an IOU with it. I've only just realised this. I think I will have to fade out. She has other friends and a boyfriend, so they can support her. I know it sounds selfish of me, but I have enough trouble coping with my own anxieties. I don't have the energy to support someone else.

I feel bad. But I remember years ago when I dealt with similar, this girl kept asking me why I was her friend and it drove me nuts. I walked away and never spoke to her again. I don't want to badly react to this woman with PS.

Please do not feel badly. As you said, the girl does have a support system.. In the case of Bill, we did not find out about his mental illness and the severity of it until after we had already "made him part of the family." We were his ONLY family. Schizophrenics are often quite "high Maintenence" emotionally. What happened with Bill was a big part of my mental breakdown. Please do not feel bad for backing off.

Hi people. Thanks for sympathising and not thinking less of me for backing off. I haven't kept in touch. I see her on the bus sometimes and I say hi but I keep my distance.
