Over the past several weeks, I've lost most of the eye lashes around my right eye.

My mother was prodding me about it when I visited home this weekend. I hadn't even noticed it before. When I saw it for the first time in the mirror, I was astonished.

Madarosis, the loss of eyelashes, can result from plucking, an infection, or an auto-immune disorder. I'm not plucking them to my knowledge. I don't have any other symptoms of an infection. There's nothing ruling out an auto-immune disorder. I'd rather have an infection than an auto-immune disorder, because that can be treated more easily with medication. An auto-immune disorder would imply a larger scale problem.

Looks like I'll be wearing my glasses alot while my eyelashes hopefully grow back.

My eyelashes bug the living daylights out of me, I am constantly adjusting them and plucking them by hand. I am pretty sure I do it in my sleep too, because I will notice a small patch missing some mornings. I have small eyes and long lashes, a bad combo. I found a lump/pimple on my eye lid a week ago with a hair coming out of it and it has had me concerned, because the lump wont go away. Hopefully you are just plucking and not something more serious. This is one thing that is easily fixed cosmetically though.

I have a condition known as blepharitis, which can cause itching and irritation of the eyelids. My opthalmologist has me gently scrub my eyelids with a solution of baby shampoo and warm water, using a Q-tip. It really cuts down on the itching and the loss of eyelashes. On days I forget, I lose lashes profusely. Also, warm compresses help increase circulation to dry eyes.

I very often rub my eyes because of their itchiness. I don't like doing that in public because a hand over the eyes can be an indicator of shyness, which I don't want to convey.
