so atleast one person said I need to leave here :'( is this how most feel?

I'd rather not be completely devoid of human contact besides the occasional one world or two to my family.

All I thought I was doing was speaking my mind and trying to defend myself like others were. old saying it takes two. they replied I replied. I've tried to be less of the monster I am. and yet I am still not liked. don't know why i bother.

I think you misunderstood Boo. You're putting too much emotional investment into that thread (and so did a lot of other people), which is unhealthy for you. It's not the end of the world if people disagree with you - if you're actually trying to change yourself for the better then you're on the right track don't worry about the small stuff.

^It's what Persevero said basically.

Your self-esteem is too fragile obviously, and the debates are upsetting you - I think those debates are reminding you of your life conditions that are making you unhappy and therefore you're being even more unhappy - you keep saying you're feeling you're a monster- ; that's why I think you need a break off WP or at least L&D, take a hot bath everyday till you're emotionally more ready.

I rarely visit L&D; it is the cesspit of the site and threads there are best opened using tongs while wearing rubber gloves and a gas mask. Prolonged exposure to L&D is harmful to one's mental health.

Nah, it's ok. Just like watching a bit of drama here and there.

Yeah, I am distancing from it myself too; I am even finding the Politics/Religions section more enjoyable, can you imagine!

I can relate. I used to avoid PPR but find some of the discussions there quite enlightening and stimulating even when the debates get a bit rough. Unlike L&D which is somehow more icky and insidious and discussions there leave a bad after-taste.

You know, on other sight forums its sometimes difficult to recover from things like this. Not so WP. Most all of us have had some real messy interactions, so the tendency is that it blows over in a short period of time and most will not care or even remember it.

If you are having repeated problems of a similiar type, its good to step back and take a good look at what is happening, such as what type things trigger you to be upset. Some types of things can be managed better, but others just have to be avoided.

Yeah, you feel there as you always have to justify that you aren't pro-rape/harassment/sexism and you're always placed in accusation light - some members there use an accusatory tone all the time.

That is exactly it and the reason why I have next to nothing to do with that forum. The atmosphere there leaves me feeling somehow 'dirty'.

To sly279, I suggest you simply stop participating in that forum, at least for the time being.

It isn't called Love & Hating for nothing. I massively prefer PPR.

OK. It wasn't long ago that PPR was the bad side of town. Now people are talking about it like its positively upscale compared to L&D.

The Love & Dating board is a nightmare. I only ever post there almost by accident -- I tend to look down the panel of latest topics on the right of the home page, and click on anything that looks like an interesting topic. Often they are homed on the General Discussion board, but occasionally the topic does come from L&D. I say what I need to say and usually get out after that, as I've been in back-and-forth crap on there before and it's not my idea of fun.

The problem is that everyone on there is defensive to each other because you've got two sides feeling like they're each other's mortal enemy and there's a TON of bitterness being slung around. Women are bitter at the men there because I'm sorry but there IS MASSIVE misogyny and hatred toward women on there. And the men are bitter at those women because obviously they don't think they're being horrible human beings. Personally I think they are.

End of story.
