Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I am still fairly new around here.

So to keep it short. Today I was walking home from work, when I get hit by a bottle. I look up and a car has stopped in front of me. The driver starts yelling at me something like 'you stood to close to my car', I stand there confused not knowing what to say as I didn't do anything wrong. He gets out, continues yelling at me, spits in my face and makes look away to not make eye contact. I indeed did as his says, just because I didn't want to make the situation any worse. Finally he and his mates drive off.

The whole situation was very surreal. What was weird was that I felt very little emotion. At one point he was asking for a fight, and I did briefly think about my choices, but I did not feel mentally prepared for a fight, that and he had his mates with him. I had no anger. I was in total shock.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has been in that situation before, how you felt during or afterwards. I don't know what I will be like tomorrow.

Yes I have been in a similar situation. I was in shock too and I remember later thinking about it a lot. I did not understand why it happened but presumed the man had had a bad day and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I hope you are ok. Try not to think about it too much and don't assume it was your fault.

Sounds like that assclown just wanted a fight. I think you did the exact right thing by not taking his bait.

I'm always scared something like this will happen to me, but no one has tried to pick a physical fight with me since middle school.

Someone threw a filled soda cup at me from a moving car once. This world is absurd and people are a**holes. Sorry all that happened to you.

You have a good story to tell though. That's something. Kind of reminds me of that famous impromptu account Jello Biafra told when the Dead Kennedys had to switch out an instrument. Here, check it out, I bet you can relate to it:

(the page itself has the full transcript under the "show more" tab if it's hard to hear)

EDIT: Can't get the video to start at correct time. Story beings at 1:07 on the player.

These kind of situations makes me ask myself could of should of would of.

No one is prepared to fight at any given time such as those. You do not even know if they are serious. You avoided a fight which is good. Its a shame from now on you have to be on your toes about that kind of scenario and make out a mental plan of what to do.

After something like that I was paranoid. I was also aggressive towards strangers. You do not have to be like I was. It was just how I felt after being in a situation like yours.

You were the victim of an assault with a dangerous weapon, which is a felony almost everywhere. What I would be doing, right now, is be on the phone with the police, providing a description of the vehicle and as much of the registration tag numbers as I remember. This isn't the first time these idiots have done this, and it probably won't be the last.

Thanks for advice guys. I decided to report it to the police, especially as it happened opposite a school.

I'm a bit on edge, gonna just try avoiding that area for a while.

Well I hope that your path does not cross that of those twits, I am sure you do not want to have that happen again.

Try not to let it get you down, I am sure that it was not something against you as a person. I suspect that they just picked on a random person so do not think it was beacuse there is something wrong with you.

That sounds good. And that's a very excellent detail to add that it's opposite a school.

I think it's serious criminal behavior on their part. An attack on an unsuspecting person, the bottle could have hurt someone, the car is involved, who knows what they're going to do with the car, the fact that it's multiple people versus one person. And like the person says above, yes, most likely they have done this before and will do this again. From my perspective, serious criminal behavior.

But the police might just view it in terms of case load. That's okay. Have the fallback position, hey, I just want to give you a heads up.

ive had things thrown at me and peoplle yell at me from their cars. none of them were ever stupiid enough to get out of their car and come after me though since i guess i look like the sort of person you dont want to really get any closer to than driving by. i remember someone yellled at me to get off the road because i was on a bike and i caughtt up to them at a light and i started kickin the hell out of their car and trying to breakk their window with my ratchet wrench, they seemed too shock to do much but drive off. im very aggressive person so generaly fighting is first thing to come to mind whatever the circumstance but i think you did the right thing by not fighting if he had friends
