Is there one? Here I am, 32. Still single. Childless. Stuck in a sh***y dead end job. And contemplating moving home with my mom. What a hypocrite I am, I won't date men who live with there moms. But then again I am not dating at all.

And not for lack of trying. I went out. I went to the bar until karaoke became unbearable. Nothing. I went to the carnival last year, and the rodeo a few weeks ago. I go into lowers all the time. And I still can't find even a friend, much less a boyfriend.

Every day I move forward in time, but not in life. Every time I look in the mirror I see more and more gray hair. It's only a matter of time before it's really noticeable to everyone else. And the needle on the scale has creeped past 200. I've decided to cut back on the candy, but food is the only joy I have in life.

I'm getting old. I'm getting fat. And my chances of being loved are getting slimmer and slimmer by the day. And one day I'll die and no one will care that I ever existed.

Honestly I think sometimes the only reason I don't get it over with is I don't want to hurt my mom. Sometimes I feel like I am only waiting for her to go on so I won't hurt her. I'm not living. I'm just existing. What's the point in that?

There is no point to existence.

You must make your own.

Being lonely is awful, you're preaching to the choir. Why not focus on self-improvement for the time being?

Just for yourself and no one else.

I tend to look more on the bright side of things, because I know attitude is everything. As crazy as this sounds I have been "shown" that we are the ones who are co-creating our reality, with our thoughts and feelings - our most deepest beliefs spring forth from our subconscious and manifest into physical reality..... but even with knowing all of this, I still have bad days - and I mean really bad days. Let me give you some advice - stop being desperate. Love yourself, and I mean ALL of yourself. Until you accept your whole self, and love it unconditionally you will continue to attract what it is you FEEL into your life. I know because I am in a constant state of attracting what I "feel" ... and goodness knows it sucks. Don't fall for the first guy that comes along out of your desperateness, I made the mistake of doing this.... and although I love him very much, I was stupid and naive and very desperate when we met. I wish I would have had someone tell me what I'm telling you - perhaps I could have avoided years of heartache and pain....

Love yourself. Trust in yourself. Don't try to please others to make people like you. It will never work.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, life is not human, and does not require meaning to be.

I can definitely relate to the OP and it sounds like something I could have wrote a couple of months back. I was recently "friend-zoned" by a woman I thought was perfect for me in every way and I for her. It has been tough being unable to make friends but I think back to all the wishes I had as a child and how I ALWAYS get them but it is also MUCH later than I would have expected. For example, I am a huge hockey fan (duh!) and am only this year finally getting to see my first NHL game.

I also try as hard as it is to look on the bright side. I put everything I had into this relationship and failed, but one of her friends reached out to me and told me she considers me a great friend, not to beat myself up over the rejection and knows of a great woman who loves guys like me. If I never invested all that effort, none of that would have happened. It always seems I put a herculean effort into something, get nowhere, put a ever so tiny bit more in and everything magically works out. I try to remain optimistic it will happen again in love.

I have stopped looking for a point to life. I'm quite sure there aren't any. The main thing is to pass the time as painlessly as possible. I think of living as a prison sentence. But I'm no longer motivated to try to escape.

I am sure everyone has their own particular take on it. This is just mine.

If you are relatively happy and content with how today went, then you don't really ask that question, you automatically look forward to tomorrow being a good day also. There is no objective point such as any particular goal or accomplishment, its just the state of being content.

Then you have to look at what it is that you think would make you happy or content. At this point there might be some specific goals. There is one big requirement however, and that is to take action, to work for it. Happiness is persued not received. And in a way its never really truly achieved, and you always have to work towards making it happen. You can get close enough though, to be content.

I wonder if that is why the phrase 'persuit of happiness' was used rather then 'happiness' in the three unalienable rights named in the American Declaration of Independence. Life and Liberty are more objective. Happiness can never be ensured or guarrentied. It can only be allowed to be chased after.
