I am quite fixated on Mercedes Benz S classes, especially models built on a W126 or W221 chassis. This 420 SEL is parked by the student union, and I spent a good 45+ minutes staring at (and taking pictures of) the Mercedes. I just now left the Benz and I am compelled to go back, listen to its ignition, and watch it drive off. I literally have to fight myself to stay away from the Benz. This obsession is a bit unhealthy, and I am looking for ways to manage it.

I think you should get yourself a w126 300SD. I'm obsessed with ALL things automotive and as such I'm well aware that's one of the best sedans ever made, and you could fuel one on waste veggie oil for next to free. Take good care of one and it could be the last car you ever need, learn enough about them and you could easily make a nice Craigslist business of handling the Bosch electronics or converting OM617 fuel systems for WVO; or you could simply work through nice fixer-uppers and drive awesome cars whilst treating them like real-estate properties.

Respect for Stuttgart just means you are a human being with good tastes.

I'd say get one, but they are so expensive and even if you get an old one, parts are out of this world pricewise.

Now if you moved to Germany you could probably get one used, German Specs, and keep it running reasonably affordable. Mercades are so common there, like Chevy's used to be here.

But otherwise, I would say you have to find ways to indulge your interest that aren't ridiculus or make you look like an weirdo.

When I like something I can't afford to have, I collect information about them and sometimes make binders or data bases, and persue that privately, online, or thru the mail. Of course its ok to attend car shows or other things designed for public viewing. Also look for Mercades forums and clubs, international as well as national. That can provide outlet to talk about it at least.

Well, I can't control when one comes into my line of vision and which ones I do see, so it depends on the type of and frequency of the Benzes.

And if I move to Germany then I'll be arrested for excess stimming.

If I see a C-class, E-class or SUV (save for the G-wagen) then a brief mention of it'll satisfy my fixation.

If it's an S-class or an AMG, then I'll be stimming away and attracting stares; if it's parked, I'll take pictures. It just cannot be controlled.

I see a conflict in your approach to this. If all your going to say is 'nothing can be done', then why ask for suggestions?

I have tried everything I could think of to avoid staring at benz. I can usually pry myself away from the Mercedes after staring and gazing for about 20-45 minutes. I want to learn how to skip the staring step and just get my satisfaction just from walking by.
