So this has been going on for about two weeks now and i really want to know how i can stop being so apathetic. I don't want to go outside, i barely want to eat and it is making everyone i know worried.

Medication doesn't seem to do anything anymore and i want to return to work. I need help!

Do you really mean "apathy" (like if a pollster called you would say that you don't care which party won the next election?), or do you mean "numbness", or "lack of emotion"?

Lack of emotion and will to do anything.

Maybe its clinical depression.
Or maybe its just being overwhelmed by stuff.

Welcome to the club. However, you can experience apathy because of depression or because of a genetic defect that generally affects your personality.

Was the medication helping before? ...maybe you need a change; could you talk to your doctor if these things continue?

Anyway, I'm sorry. I'm all too familiar with the feelings. Maybe if you're very burnt out it might help simply to rest for a while, though of course it's important to try to take care of yourself. I think small steps is the way to go. You could try and set yourself a small number of manageable goals for each day. If you're at the stage of not eating or going outside then an example could be taking a shower, going and sitting outside for a few moments, and eating one small nutritious meal. Eventually these things should become more manageable and you can work your way up to the bigger things. You say people around you are worried. Maybe expressing some of these things to them and making some (manageable) plans with them for accountability could help.

I'm with naturalplastic on this one, it sounds like it could be clinical depression as much as "apathy."

Really hard to say without knowing what meds you're on/off/should be taking/usually take etc. But the advice I would give would be to consider your diet (are you getting enough potassium? are you helped by supplemental serotonin, tryptophan, stuff like that?); talk to a family member, professional therapist, or whoever your support group is; knuckle under and make yourself do what you need to do regardless of how you feel about it; and/or engage in whatever sort of spiritual/religious system you believe in.

For me, prayer and singing about my beliefs usually works. As a Jesus person I use the Bible and the hymn book to get my mind out of apathy/depression and back into balance.

Sounds like a severe lack of motivation, I've been like this for years, not wanting and not really able to do anything, no appitite, no drive for life, without the care of parents, I wouldn't leave the home and starve.

It seems to have gone for now. I informed my mom about about my conditions and she wrote a letter to the doctor describing my condition and so i was taken in for a blood test to see how my body absorbs my medication.

Nevertheless thanks for the advice everyone. I'll try and remind myself about this thread when i feel like an emotionless husk again.
