I've only been here for three weeks and already I'm feeling people turning against me. Maybe it's just me being paranoid again, but I just feel that way. It's just that the way some users on here speak to me makes me feel awkward and as if they don't like me. Maybe I'm just interpreting it the wrong way, but I don't know. I don't think I've ever said or done anything malicious to anyone on here at all.

In one of the discussion boards I found a thread called "Mysterious members on WP", where people talk about members they deem "mysterious" (such as members who post a lot or post mostly in the games board). For me, calling someone "mysterious" is like calling someone "weird" or "scary", two things I really don't like being called. I know that thread wasn't a personal attack against me or anyone else, but I just think threads like that are potential bait for drama, and I really don't want to see any drama going on here because I think this should be a place for people to be supportive of and not hate each other. Plus I post a lot in the games section so I'm worried people think of me as "mysterious" and will post about me in that thread.

Secondly, I was posting in the "unconventional insult thread" and someone told me to "go and eat a bag of d---s". I don't know if he was joking, but he seemed to actually take offense to what I said, and the thing is I thought that thread was a joking thread and not a thread where you actually insult someone, so I'm worried I might have upset him.

I just feel very out of place here at the moment. I'm just worried I may have done something wrong. I'm worried that if I say something in the "wrong" way everyone will turn against me and think I'm a troll and that I might get banned. I'm just really worried :/

I've been misunderstood for this before. People on this site are more blunt than your average person so it may feel awkward at first, but most people here do mean well. It's just informative rather than feelings I guess? :)

I'd say mysterious is more like surrounded in mystery. We never see them as a person or know much about them, and much is left, well, a mystery. It's more of the literal definition rather than subjective opinion on the word. It wasn't intended as offensive against anyone who posts in that section. Just so much about those there is unknown.

Try not to worry so much, this is by far the nicest community of any of the sites I've ever been on :)

A cursory overview of your posts has revealed nothing that violates the forum guidelines, so you're likely safe from the banhammer.

For my part, I've barely seen you around the forum; you certainly haven't gained any notoriety with me.

I tried to find that "insult" in the unconventional insult thread, but to no avail

I doubt it was aimed at you though or that they got offended or that anyone has taken anything seriously there.

To say that a person is "mysterious" could be construed many ways.

Most are positive, a few are negative.

I'm a cat-lover, too. So I identify with you.

To me, it just feels a little bit cheap and absurd. It's like Norman Bates dressing up in his mother's clothing, it's just a little bit creepy, and I feel like you're going to stitch someone's skin to your face and then kill everybody on the forum. But, do you?

I'm sorry but I don't understand are you adressing me? Because if so please feel free to eat a whole bag of dicks.

Back to the insults. You are carrot.

Well I guess they didn't get why you said that...or this:

From the username, avatar, join date and number of posts on the left, to the date, time and quote button at the top, do you not have any value or respect for originality? You're a laughingstock, it's cheesy, it's disgusting, I personally find it absolutely atrocious. I am embarrassed to be sitting here in front of my computer having to even dignify you with an answer of my opinion.

I guess "go eat dicks" would mean - go if you don't want to have fun with us. Not sure but I doubt anyone would get offended there by any of those ridiculous insults or copy your posts.

I'm sorry you feel out of place, but I don't think anyone here anything personal against you. these kind of misunderstandings do happen do quite often, until you get the hang of this place (like iliketrees has already mentioned).

It might be a good idea if you stop posting for a while, and just read the various forums to see how people interact with each other here. Every site has its own atmosphere, and WP is no exception to that. It's generally a very friendly place, where the vast majority of the members are kind and supportive. Of course, the 'religion, politics and philosophy' forum can get rather heated occasionally, but that's just the nature of those subjects.

As I understand it, the 'unconventional insult' thread is just a place where you can post an unusual insult that isn't aimed at anyone on the site - it's a way of being 'creatively insulting' to no one in particular.

It's most unlikely that people on WP will take offence at you, unless it is very obvious that you are deliberately setting out to insult people and pick a quarrel.

I meant what I said as "unconventional insults".

There should be a warning with that place 8O I clicked a thread on the home page and it led me to there and I didn't think much of it, didn't even look which section it was. Needless to say I am checking every time I click a link from the home page on the active discussions part. I tend to stick to the General, occasionally check others but this is the most active of the ones I check so I post here most often. But that place is scary 8O

I've only returned here after over a decade of absence since around maybe three weeks ago and nearly ended up with a heated debacle with the "materialists" within these forums due to my Dean Radin thread (hyper-linked so that you can read it for yourself). HUE

It's true, just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean that they're not out to get you ! :o

Can't say that I remember coming across any of your posts other than maybe one or two. Also, personally, I would rather hug you than hate you anyway (especially if you happen to be that lady in your avatar-icon  ). I don't like letting negative-emotions (such as hate) dictate my actions.

I let people call me what-ever they want, but if they're doing it as a nuissance or in a derogatory manner, then I just make a PUBLIC statement about how "Oh, you're one of those people; I have no further reason to bother to dialogue with you for that reason" and pretty much ignore them after that since it's too time-wasting to deal with children who aren't going to help me get any work accomplished (and are taking time away from my productivity).

I get called a Conspiracy-Theorist™ all the time myself ! :D
I will also gladly accept the "label" of being Mysterious™ and even Weird™ and Scary™ are fine with me since I can just use them as my own Euphemisms™ for future-conversations !

Well, I personally don't participate in those types of threads, but I have "clashed" with some people before, although I always have a way to respond in a "witty" manner, because I've had a lot of practice in making foolish people look foolish and silly due to the fact that their logical-reasoning capabilities were factually very silly & foolish (I have numerous examples from threads of mine on another forums I could link if you want to see them for yourself).

Why I dodge bans all the time hence why I decided upon the nick-handle of Ban-Dodger ! ;O

Also, I think I'm just gonna go ahead and hug you anyway, therefore... <hugs Catlover5 !> ^_^

You're not that supermodel. But are you male, or female? (On this new version of WP they dont tell your gender in the public profile anymore).

I havent crossed paths with you before now on WP except once before. I read that one post you made telling that person "I don't want you to commit suicide" which made a great first impression on me. So I am fine with you!

"Unique" has the same denotation as "wierd", but a very different connotation. They both mean "different" but one is positive, and one is negative.

"Mysterious" ranges from neutral in connotation to implying "alluring" (atleast for me). So I wouldnt worry about the adjective being applied to WP members. People who seemed to hiding something bad on purpose are called "cagey" or "secretive" usually.

Yeah, I agree. Before, I wasn't sure what the connotation of the word "mysterious" was, I didn't know whether it had a positive, a negative or a neutral connotation but now that you guys have explained it I now understand it better :D
