I'd like to consider myself a human being, not "that autistic guy" or "that aspie." My autism spectrum disorder does not define me as a person, my actions do. I am furious right now because there are anuses, both in real life and on the wide, wonderful Internet, that see individuals with ASDs and other mental/neurological problems as easy targets. Recently, on a forum whose name I shall not divulge, a derogatory thread was posted about the neurodiversity movement. Given the vitriol the site usually hurls at autistics, I was outraged. What really sickened me was the site's Social Darwinist and pro-cure mentality. They believe that only certain people have what it takes to fight, crawl, and scrape their way to the top by any means necessary, and those who don't have talent or potential should accept their role as victims.

I'm sorry for posting this. I am just downright disgusted.

You have dickheads everywhere. Tell them to go out in the world and express those opinions to an actual person.

In the meantime, I would live by the truism: "opinions are like a**holes..everybody's got one."

Wouldn't it be wonderful if other forums could learn this, too? I was convinced that the OP was describing one particular forum. :|

I think we've only been telling you for almost a year that those sites exist to get an emotional reaction out of you, and for no other reason. Stop viewing them.

The internet is overflowing with people who do not know how to handle their own personal insecurities. So, instead of facing them head-on and being honest about them, they wear masks that give the impression of vast aggression and toughness, knowing damn well that their anonymity is personally safe.

You are not dealing with people living in a world of reality. You are dealing with actors who are giving a performance not in the hopes of winning an Oscar, but in the hopes that others will believe it is who they really are. True strength lies in living with who one really is, and these people are sorely lacking in true strength. Some people feel intimidated by true personal strength, so they put aggression against it in their performances. That's all it is, really.

The internet has hatched a new breed of actor, and it is not the kind of performance that anybody really needs to be encouraging.

Apparently, someone from 8chan has set up an account in my name here for the purpose of stirring up trouble.

Do not listen to what these psuedo-intellects say about those with Asperger's. These people are probably frustrated with their lives and know the only place they can be seen as strong is the internet. In real life, they're probably living with social anxiety or some other problem. Not only that, but people who tend to say things like this are hateful and very insecure.
