Most of my life as far as I can remember I've had these sort of ticks mainly shaking my head, sniffing my fingers and even making noises but they are controllable to a point and the more people notice and comment, the more I get self concious and try to supress them. I find I can do this and have managed it most of the time but I have to be constantly aware that I might be doing it and when I;m alone I have to let them out. Lately Ive been doing the head shake alot and in trying to supress it Ive developed another one where I start to shake my head then lock my neck up but Ive now got such a stiff neck that its becoming so painful. Does anyone have any tips how to deal with these things. I think they are mood related cos when things are going well and I have a little confidence then I seem to control them more but as the anxiety creeps in then they come back and I get more anxious the more I do it and get aware that people are watching me and laughing at me.

I experience this. I told my psychologist and she simply explained it away as anxiety related panics. It interferes with a lot of my life as I have difficulty doing things like eating or typing in public without feeling a tick or shake come on. I try to prevent it and also try to keep it under control. But this just makes me further tired and drained and not wanting to be around others. I feel like the ticks are the cause of the anxiety and not the other way around.
