Hi. I'm usually able to hide my feelings, but sometimes I'm not able to, no matter how much I try, especially today, which is why I decided to ask. I know that you should let it out when you cry, but sometimes I cry under situations where I shouldn't. People begin to stare at me, I feel less professional and I feel like people think I just want attention. So I wondered how do you control it? I usually control it by thinking of neutral things like homework or maybe a tree.

Sometimes, you just have to let it out.
when you are in private, let out all your emotions, doing that will make it easier to hold them back when you need it.

Also, find a psychologist, holding back emotions is unhealthy, the first paragraph i wrote is a short-term workaround, not a solution.

Thank you for your answer. I do have psychologist, I just had a little breakdown on the day I wrote this. I'm not sure if I dare to tell her though, I have never needed to tell this to anyone before now, but I like your advice. So I think I'm just going to do what you suggested, and if it get worse, I will have to tell it to someone.

Why wouldn't you "dare" to tell your own psychologist a perfectly okay thing like this?

While crying in professional situations such as at one's workplace in front of co-workers, a boss or clients is pretty much a no-no, izzeme is correct that always suppressing emotions including crying is unhealthy, and certainly when you're in a safe, private situation you don't need to stop yourself from crying. It's an outlet for a reason.

Thank you for your answer, I am aware that this is an okay thing. I guess I'm just too scared I haven't talked about feelings like these before. I think I have to prepare and get done with it as soon as possible to get braver.

Focus on breathing slowly and deeply. Think about something else entirely to distract yourself from the distressing matter at hand. Since it is difficult to pick something in the moment, plan now so you have something ready that has no negative associations. It could be a picture, your favorite part of a movie or book, or you could memorize a short poem. Casually get up and take a walk somewhere private if you can to get yourself calm, before anyone suspects and starts asking questions or mocking you.

I wish I knew. Once it happens, it's happening, and for a good half hour, regardless of who's nearby.

It's who I am, I struggle with anxiety and I'm probably going to cry. I spare myself embarrassment because I acknowledge it's just who I am, and I can't stop it. No sense in shaming myself for being myself. I just try to control what stereotypically comes after a grown man cries.. no tantrums, no shouting, nothing of that sort.

Thank you for all your answers.

When I think back, hiding in a shed isn't a very good idea, I will find a better place next time, and I am going to follow your steps in your advice.

I agree with all of you that you should just let it out. I just have to be braver i guess. It really helps writing on this website. I don't have a lot of close friends who understands the condition.

Sorry about your anxiety. I am also trying to control myself after crying from running from the classes. When you say that it is a part of you and that is what makes you not embarrassed, I don't feel embarrassed too, at least less embarrassed. So I think it will be easier to get over past episodes.
