Why can't people keep their mouth shut?
My music teacher found out about my diagnosis. I didn't want her to know. She found out because she thought I was somewhat similar to an aspie guy that she knows. I only think I'm similar to him because we probably both have ADHD. She ended up asking my mom. My mom told her I have autistic tendencies.
My mom doesn't think that's the same as telling people I'm autistic. It still gets the same reaction. I'm going to have to ask her to never use the word autism to describe me. She should just tell people I have ADHD, anxiety, depression or focusing issues. Not autistic tendencies!
The worst part about this is that my music teacher told some Russian guy about it. My mom didn't even tell me she told her. Mainly because she didn't think she told her! I only found out because my music teacher joked about me taking things literally and mentioned curebie cures. Who knows who that Russian guy will tell.
I wish I could escape my label for good. I hate it when people know about it. It just makes me feel heavy and sh***y inside.

I'm fine with people knowing about it, but only if I tell them or I give another person permission to tell people. One day in junior high, the teacher had me out of the classroom and apparently told the entire class that I had Asperger's, which I did not give her permission to do. But instead of the students being more understanding, they behaved in typical NT fashion and bullied me even more. But if I make a friend, I always tell them I have Asperger's so they can better understand my odd behaviors.
I guess it doesn't make you feel heavy and crappy inside. If I were to make friends I wouldn't tell them. If I begin to notice I'm acting weird around my friends I'll just tell them I have ADHD/anxiety. That pretty much covers all of my quirks.

I just talked to my mom. It was a big misunderstanding. My music teacher asked my mom if I had the same thing as a guitar player. We had no idea he was an aspie. He's just the typical long haired guitarist. It seems like all long haired guitarists I meet are aspies. I already asked my music teacher to not tell anyone else. Hopefully that Russian guy won't.

What your mom did was against your legal rights and you should tell her as much. In my such experiences it's useless to go quoting legislative tomes I've worked with such as HIPPA but she & your teachers need to know how far beneath uncool it is to go rabbling about people's own brains behind their backs.
A cool old lady who told me she used to work at Lawrence Livermore national laboratories (the tevatron particle accelerator) keeping physicists sane told me never to cover or apologize for being me. I think you should do the same...

No matter what legal rights of yours someone may be violating, you'd better be sure you don't depend on them in any way, and ready not to depend on them ever again, before you try to enforce those rights.

I made it quite clear to my family members that they need to keep very quiet about me. Ideally nobody they talk to will even know I exist. Since my entire family is used to dealing with people that have various mental difficulties, they tend to be good at keeping quiet about it. Try and explain to your mother in a polite and civil manner, only resorting to extreme violence if absolutely necessary, that you prefer her not to go around blabbing about "autistic tendencies" or anything else of the sort.
I think the best thing to do with those that already know is just ignore the label. "Autistic" means nothing to me. People used to call me all sorts of names because I didn't fit in. Fact is, the people who'd make fun of you for that would be making fun of you for something else anyway. True friends will not make fun of you for it. If anything it's a good filtering device to see who's shallow and who's genuine.
I don't know if it's the truth, but based on what my mom says she was kind of tricked into it. My music teacher asked my mom if I have the same condition as another guy. What my mom didn't know was that guy is an aspie. I didn't know he was an aspie either.
