I believe it stands for American Civil Liberties Union. And I don't see how there's anything wrong with calling them; they have legal experts and if your rights are being violated they'll fight for you (I assume); if they aren't they'll tell you they're not. Good for you for contacting them.

On the other hand, I don't live in America so I have no idea what negative consequences there might be for calling them.

Were they able to tell you anything helpful? My hope is that whatever temporary storm you go through will help in the long run.

Crap. How about contacting them electronically?
You have access to a computer, after all.

The ACLU often has there own agenda. It was largely because of their influence that actual crazy people were removed from institutions and ended up onto the streets. Some localities are better then others though. I'm biased on this, however it's something to keep it mind.

The ACLU kicks ass. One day I'm gonna wear a shirt to school that says "I (heart) ISLAM" and the first person who complains about it is getting ACLU'd.

This gives me a topic idea, thanks Todd489. You may see it the Political/Philosophy/Religion forum.

BTW, Todd, first person who "complains," wouldn't that be covered as well if you apply Abe Fortas' "schoolhouse door" absolutism both ways? If someone threatened you that would be different, or if you were harassed.

I have a Muslim friend over the Internet whose brother's name is Osama and gets bullied for it.

That sucks. It's just as stupid as bullying some German kid who's name is Adolf (a name that disappeared in America after WWII, and usage certainly dropped off in Germany although that is understandable). The problem is with the low Muslim population the name is very distinctive, and unusual. If "Ahmed Bin Laden" had been behind the 9/11 plot then perhaps this problem wouldn't present itself.

Still, it is totally unfair for your friends brother to be teased or bullied. I hope someone does something appropriate to deal with it.
