Ever since I went on Sertraline, which was about 20 months ago, I literally haven't had one outburst. It's been lovely. I've never felt so normal in all my life.

But lately my emotions have been getting out of control. This past month I've been getting into a panic about things, which then triggers off depression and finally anger. Anger and depression are the emotions the antidepressants have been preventing.

I keep feeling an outburst coming on; getting myself into a rage, slamming doors, shouting, saying inappropriate things, crying, and excessive trembling and heart rate. I feel a horrible nagging feeling in my tummy when angry, and I can't do anything until I have expressed my frustration to whoever had pushed the wrong buttons.

I'm scared now. I really thought I was rather cured of anger. I felt fixed, and that I could get on with my life without the rage outbursts.
I didn't think antidepressants could stop working. I mean, people have medication for other conditions (mental or physical) that they remain on for life and they don't become immune to them all of a sudden.

Now I'm scared. I feel mentally ill again. It's going to affect my relationship soon, if I start losing control in front of him.

What will I do? What if other antidepressants don't work? My emotions are too intense for CBT, I tried it before and it didn't help at all. I also tried counselling, that didn't help either.

Dear Joe90,

Anti-D's can stop working as effectively as they were before.

There are many possible reasons for this...some are psychological and some are physiological.

Have you discussed this with the Doctor that prescribe the anti-D's?

It is understandable that you are upset and afraid that you will destabilize...anyone would feel upset if they were in your situation.

You'll need to explain to the Doctor exactly what you told us.

Keep us posted, ok? :D
