A certain medication
Hello,
I am not sure whether I have Aspergers or not, but I do have obsessions. I've had obsessive interests all my life, and the medication that I'm currently on, Fluvoxamine, is supposed to stop/help stop obsessional thinking. I do want obsessions, for they ground me and give me purpose in life, but I just want to have the right obsession, an obsession that I want, like Chemistry or Physics, instead of politics/economics.
I'm just so worried about this Fluvoxamine and it's relation to stopping my obsessive interests. I feel my life's purpose is gone without my obsessions, for lack of a better word.
Can anyone help me, particularly those with extensive knowledge in the Pharmaceutical/Pharmacology sciences?
Thank you!

If obsessiveness is a part of your personality(or Aspergers), drugs aren't going to change that. If you don't like the Fluvoxamine that you are currently taking then you can always stop it. It doesn't cause any permanent change whatsoever. How long have you been on it? If its been 4-8 weeks already, has it helped at all?
Fluvoxamine (brand names: Faverin, Fevarin, Floxyfral, and Luvox) is a medication which functions as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and σ1 receptor agonist. Fluvoxamine is used primarily for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and is also used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD), and anxiety disorders such as panic disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Fluvoxamine CR (controlled release) is approved to treat social anxiety disorder.
The FDA has added a black box warning for this drug in reference to increased risks of suicidal thinking and behavior in young adults and children.

I'm not sure if the obsessiveness is part of my personality. I'm not even sure if I have Asperger's. Physicians, Psychiatric Physicians, have told me that I don't have Aspergers. And I don't share all of the traits, such as the need for rituals such as rocking or other stuff to keep sensory overstimulation in check.
And I'm capable of socializing, it's just that I never really cared, that and I can come off as strange. I've been diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I've just always had these obsessions, ranging from construction equipment and sharks, to Buddhism and Medicine.
I've been on and off of Fluvoxamine. I wanted to go off of it because I was concerned it was stopping my obsessions. When I went off of it, my political obsessions came back full force, but I also felt maybe a budding interest in Anthropology, particularly the study of early humans such as the Neanderthals and early Homo Sapiens/ Cro-Magnon.
Without Fluvoxamine, it's so hard to pay attention in classes such as Math. I have all these thoughts buzzing around in my head, it's impossible to focus. So I feel trapped. If I'm on Fluvoxamine, I can focus at least somewhat better but my obsessions are somewhat hindered. If I'm not on Fluvoxamine, my unwanted political obsessions come back and I can't focus.
