Sheltered, coddled, spoiled rotten.
I feel like my family did that to me my whole life. Treated me like I was special and didn't have any responsibility to anything. And now I'm lazy and get irritated by petty things and not taking care of myself very well. I feel like they keep things from me that way my feelings won't get hurt. I've gotten away with things that my two older sisters would not get away with. And I think a lot of it has to do with me being "different". Anyone else feel like this?

Hi, My parents never knew I had Asperger's and my dad never knew he had it because way back then, it was not named. (By the time I was 33 both of my parents had died). So nobody called it anything then but I do feel my mom treated me differently because I could not catch on quickly to things she would try to teach me like sewing, knitting, cooking, etc. So she'd just grab it away from me in frustration and say, "Here, let me do it." What you perceive as being lazy, may stem from the depression that often accompanies Asperger's. What you consider as petty things irritating you may be things you have no control over because many people with Asperger's are hyper sensitive to sounds, light, smells, etc. I can't sleep in the same room much the less the same bed as my husband because he snores, and I would feel any movement he makes in the bed and it would disturb my sleep. Do I like things this way? No, but I can't stop what irritates me from irritating me. It's just the way I am wired. I don't take care of myself very well either. It's just part of the package deal that is Asperger's, at least the way it manifests in me. Don't be to hard on yourself. I bet you have a lot of good qualities. (((hugs)))
