The other night this as whole tried a home invasion here. It was a guy I know, and a cousin of one of the kids friends. I shoved him out the door and of( the porch and called 911. I called the cops and they suggested getting a gun since my dogs won't bite. I guess I will. Thank god I quit drinking huh?

Nothing to arrest him for. I opened the door and he tried to shove his way in. That gave me a bad feeling so I shoved his fat ass off the porch. What he did was rude and suspicious but not illegal. It would have given them probable cause for search or questioning but they couldn't arrest him for it. He took off when I shoved him and said I'd call 911 for him. Nothing was wrong with that junkie that my wallet wouldn't cure and he's not getting that..

What amazes me is he thought I would be an easy mark, and he knows me. If he had come in and tried something I would have cut him and handed him his ads. He may be a grown man but I'm quicker and not strung out so if win. Plus my two daughters were home and that would have got him evil ruthless mama bear. He wouldn't have stood a chance. Getting the gun just means everybody will know I have one and that won't happen again. Cause everybody knows I'd shoot somebody.

Sounds like trespassing to me. Not sure on US law but UK you can do something about it.

I would have to have posted no trespassing signs and also the person would have had to have reason to not be welcomed, like he had never been here or if he had been, someone would have told him not to come back. The last time he was here he came by with the guy who was staying here who was trying to encourage him to get off drugs. If I hadn't had a bad feeling I would have let him in, but something was off so I knew it was a scam.

I did call his mother though and messaged his baby mama. They are pissed at him.

oh, drugs. okay. at first it was unclear what his motive would be.

do you know how to use a gun? my partner sleeps with a gun next to his side of the bed ever since we got robbed by gunpoint, but I still don't know how to correctly shoot a gun and I can barely even load the damn thing because it's so heavy. plus I'm so afraid of the loud noise especially if I was in a sudden situation where I couldn't wear ear protection. these are just my shortcomings when it comes to guns, I'm not saying I doubt your mama bear skills...you just never know what could go wrong in the moment. what if crazy dude also has a gun and he's high on meth or something and shoots you before you can shoot him? what if he's directly angry at you now for outing him to his mother and baby mama and wants revenge?

god I can't imagine how much more scary this type of situation would be with kids in the house.

do you have any neighbors you trust who you could talk to and ask them be back up help if you need it?

ahhh sorry to be so paranoid. strung out drug addicts are bad news. I hope this guy leaves you alone now.

I'm very good with a firearm and have had training with one. I've used one when I was a bounty hunter and carried when I was a PI. I understand your fear but I've been in many, many sketchy situations and I wasn't always on the legal side, but mostly I was.

My kids are grown and would help me and my daughter's fiance has a rifle that he sat up with after that but ten year olds have rifles in this town so I need a big girl gun.I'm thinking .357. I used to have a nice model 27 and it is big but I have big purses and if I have to carry a small purse that means I'm wearing a dress so a leg holster under the skirt would work. Assuming I get a permit to take it out of the house. I don't need one to have it at home. Also a lot of people open carry here and I'm not sure but I think you can open carry without a permit.

But don't worry about my gun skills. I'm pretty good with one. Had tons of practice lol

My first arrest was a federal gun charge but it was dropped because while I was technically guilty, I had called to try and find out if the gun was stolen and was given the wrong info. When that came to light they dropped it. I was 18 and it was a .44 stolen from a military base in NC. That was during my gun phase. I had lots of different ones and sold them too, legally. Alabama had weird laws. Still does. A bunch of us bought and sold guns and would go target shooting. I got rid of my gun when I married my husband because he's from up north and afraid of guns and was against them. He's not anymore. Before I got rid of mine I hung out with a guy who was ex ranger and he showed me a lot of stuff with one and some tactical defense too. And I dated a drug dealer who showed me even more stuff with one. When I was a bounty hunter and PI I carried a loaner from people who I worked for.

I'm not sure if I'm legally allowed to own one because I have a couple assault charges but never anything with a weapon. I can keep it at the house and say it's my husband's or son's though. And the cop who was here that night, one who has arrested me on Two of those assaults, told me get a gun since your dogs won't bite. So I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about. I live in a very small town and he remembers me.

Get a 12 gauge shotgun. I dunno about Alabama gun laws, but shotguns are generally easier to get than handguns, and are more effective at stopping intruders. A 12 gauge loaded with 00 buckshot will blow this a**hole in half.

If you don't have any felonies or DV charges, you should be alright to possess. Be careful, if you are a prohibited person, you and whoever "owns" any guns in the house with you can be charged under a legal concept called "constructive possession, just FYI.

As to what you should look for, it's hard to go wrong with a 12 gauge pump, something like a Remington 870 (look for an older one) or a Mossberg 500, though an AR-15 variant is super versatile if you can afford it, and any of the 9mm Glocks is a great choice if you're going to carry outside the house.
