My friend is AS. She's also got OCD. Well, it involves religious themes, and it always tells her that her special interests are sinful which, textbook OCD, brings her great distress. Her most recent episode has her thinking things are signs from God that her OCD is right & she's sinning. She eventually realized she was what she called "externalizing" and stopped viewing things this way. Last night, she had a bad episode that left her feeling super guilty and she was worried she'd receive a sign from God in her dreams that her OCD was right and that if she did the thing, her family would die. Apparently, she worried about this all night. She woke up and says she heard a voice and was afraid it was God about to tell her that her OCD was right. She also questioned if she was suffering from an auditory hallucination. At any rate, she said the voice didn't actually say anything and that it sort of jumped to birds chirping differently which was a "sign." She said it was probably her OCD and as soon as she said that the birds stopped chirping and she went back to sleep only to panic when she woke back up.

I thought this might be a hypnopompic hallucination given it has a really dream-like quality. They're common in people with anxiety and even mentally healthy people under extreme stress, and if they're auditory like her's, they may be about things you've been thinking about a lot. She had woke up because she referenced the exact time it happened with times of family members doing things around the house that she could hear.

OCD sufferers, especially Pure O sufferers, can you relate?

House-keeping details:

-Don't make this about what's sinful or not because everyone has differing viewpoints and it's been applied to other stuff too.

-Don't bash religion. This is not religion's fault. She has an illness. It affects atheist and agnostic people too. Those with this type of OCD still get very distressed about philosophical, moral, and ethical issues and still may think bad things may happen if they're wrong.

-I've already told her to see a psychiatrist.

A few years ago, someone had posted their experiences of hearing voices, for which I made mention of a book that I recommended him to read, one that was authored by something of an Unorthodox Psychiatric-Doctor...

One term I use for these types of experiences these days is psychotronic-disruption or psychotronic-resonance. I also have a heavy background in para-normal document-research & reading but instead of using spiritual/religious-language I prefer these days to make use of technological-language to describe the phenomenae. Multiple methods (non-drug) can be used to sever the links with what are traditionally described as discarnate-entities (spirits). Read Dr. Wickland's works for now.
