I really do not know any Aspies/people on the spectrum ~ Meaning personally know . In the same room with .
In a sense I have never really been deeply in in-the-same-room connection with anyone I know to be AS (in whatever sense) :( . Never :( .
I have had not-that-successful visits to a few Meetup AS groups ~ It didn't , briefly , really work out . I made no connection . So that's the reason for my qualification above .
And , if someone asked me it may be that some considerable amount of homeless are AS ~ However , there's no one I know thusly that I know to be AS .
I tend to spend so much of my life either trying to scarf up fod or computer time ~ Or , sleep ~ that I have had little time to make social connections :( .

Yes, you do know aspies. We are everywhere. Its like the Anonymous Hackers or batman. You'll never know when you're in the room with one of us, but we are there. Especially if your autism is keeping you from picking up the subtle ways that other aspies are different, you will never know that you've interacted with one.

I see you live in a big city. Maybe someone you meet online, but is local, would be willing to sit down and have a drink with you so you can know that you know another aspie. A lot of newly diagnosed people find that to be really helpful. Just make sure that you are safe about it by going somewhere public and not doing anything gullible like giving a stranger your home address.

I would also strongly suggest that you go to one of those meetups at least four times before giving up. You have a disability that makes socializing hard. They will understand if you need to be like a shadow at the edge of the group for a while. Its OK to just be quiet for a few sessions before jumping into the conversation. Or at least, it should be OK. If its not OK with them, it really isn't the right group for you.

I've known quite a few people who could fit at least some of the diagnostic criteria for Asperger's/ASD Level One.

I have not known too many classically-autistic people though.

I've met a few diagnosed kids on the spectrum, and I know others I suspect are, as well. But I don't personally know any other diagnosed adults. It can be a lonely world out there.

I know there have been some around me, but I've never talked to them, so I didn't really know them.

...As I said , it's people I know to be/have " outed " themselves thusly , I'm sure threr are people in the street I pass bywho " are " , that's not the point . .
Frankly , my socio-economic/financial status sort of precludes me from going to that Meetup group ! :(
And , at least some of their meetings are in the library which remember I'm banned from now .
Too at least some?? of their meetings have a " suggseted admission/for the pot " fee of a couple dollars , IIRC . For me , that's a bit much ~ Too , at least some of their meetings " adjourn afterward to a nearby resturaunt ~ It should only cost about twenty dollars " ~ That is REALLY a bit much for me :( ! !! !! !! !! I'll admit I'd hoped to get help/offers in the meetings , which weren't forthcoming - But I wasn't really hoping for a free restaraunt meal thusly , but I am sort of left out f I don't partake .
And , it at least seems that the people there were mostly 20-30 somethings ~ I felt a bit (or more) removed from them???
Maybe envious , that they seemed to be " successes " . :( I thought to myself , "maybe I'd relate to an Aspie teenager " - maybe an " immediate post-teenager/young adult " , anyway - more than them ??? If only because , with my thwarted ambition to go to " full " college/uni , I'm " a teenager who ever got to carry out that ritual " ? Well , maybe not .
If I had a little more secure - & " nice " _ a situation , maybe I could carry out seeking other Aspies ?
Hoevs , too , there are , of course , if not less AS my age (opr older or , say , a decded-sh ypounger - 45 and up) certainly far less DIAGNOSED/seeing themselves at AS/with that IDENTITY around - and I think , often , I could relate to them more .
Ad there's my lack of computer access . And knowledge . :(

I have a " Banned from the Library " thread , check it there .
I'm perhaps , to them , one of the " too many HL people hanging around " , too... :(
