My friend is becoming suicidal, is there any way I can help?
I have a friend in the European Union who I met online, I will just call him Dovah because that's a shortened version of his username. Anyway, Dovah is bisexual and he's dating someone who's trans (female to male) who I will call Avar (again, a shortened username) and I have talked to Avar quite a bit too.
Both have them have attempted suicide multiple times in the past and struggled with depression, they both have a rather long list of mental problems, both of them have abusive fathers that they don't live with any more, and on an unrelated note they are both natural lucid dreamers. They have also both stated that their relationship is the only reason they have a will to live, and if it ended then they plan on committing suicide. Right now they are in an argument with each other and Avar has decided to stop the relationship temporarily until they can resolve it.
Neither of them are doing too well right now. Dovah doesn't want to talk about it at all but Avar is trying to get support from anyone willing to listen including me. In a nutshell the problem is that when Avar talks to Dovah about some problem that he is having then Dovah often just points out how he has it worse. Avar needs someone to talk to and Dovah is not doing a great job at listening. Dovah has been a bit hard on himself for that because he is trying to change that behavior but with limited success. I have explained to Avar that I struggle with stuff like that and that Dovah's problem with that is not just him not caring.
At this point they both blame themselves for the problem and Avar has specifically said that this breakup will not be permanent, but I still am quite worried about them and I really hate to see Dovah like this, even through text based communication it's clear that he's having a hard time with it and I don't know if there is anything else I can do to help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
