They super pushing and requiring us do push credit cards on people. Do to aspergers and social anxiety I can't do that and it's stressful enough but manageable to say hi to most people that come in. With the cards people get upset being asked they get asked 10 or more times before they get to me and I'm in the bargain area so people either already have on, strongly don't want one or are dirt poor hence looking for bargains and can't get a card.

Besides harassing me to get cards now they put on check list we have to hand out 5 info cards or get 5 cc a day. :( it's super stressful and I go home worried every day will be my last. Along with all the already stressfulness of the department drama. I feel so mentally and physically tired after a 4-5 hour shift. I'd like to keep working but most days I wish they'd just fire me and get it over the anxiety of waiting for it to happen and being harassed is terrible and I feel like I'm a failure. I work my ass off to organize and help customers with their questions but it's not good enough. I like the only one who tries to organize the shoe area anymore I have to do it 2-3 times a day

I get the feeling the place depends on you more than you think.

You've been there a while. I think they rely on your experience.

People come
And go. Takes them 2 weeks to train a replacement most people won't stay in the clearance area and move to other departments in 2weeks to a few months.
Non of the other existing workers in the department have many cards either. I don't know how much longer I can take the stress and feeling like I suck and then they wonder why I'm not cheery later in the day :(

Think of it as a blessing in disguise. You don't seem to enjoy it much there anyway.

I know enough about HR BS, to know that it's possible they deliberately set unattainable targets.
Some companies do that sometimes, so don't panic too much(yet).

Personally I think it's a silly practice, it just demoralises and stresses out your workforce.

Why do they set attainable targets?

I like getting out of the house and the tiny little bit extra money I get by buying less food. I also like a few of the people there.

When I first started they said it wasn't required then 4 months ago they've really been pushing it on me and in general since new credit card manager started. My leads lead always asking if I got cards and trying to get me to do so. And they have a tracker in the break room with everyone's names and how many they got. I was just going put up with it and talk to local Americans disability act person about how to request an accommodation. Now though the new lead for my area updated our daily task check list to include giving out 5 cards a day. I'm almost to the point of begging customers to take one and telling them why.

I put up with their mistreatment of our department and work my butt off every day for them. Other people get hundreds of cards surely in the grand scheme me not getting any doesn't make a difference.

When they push me it makes me anxious and sad so then I shut down and stop greeting and helping every customer. I think it should only be done at the cash register and maybe the greeting post. I don't think most people want to be harassed by 50 people to sign up for a card every time they go to shop. I'd just stop going to the store if it was me.

I'd like to just be left alone to help customers and keep the place clean and organized

Maybe this is the push you need to get another job--it is a lot easier to find a job if you are still employed.

Retail jobs are hell on earth for aspies, due to our cognitive deficits and such things as being unable to read body language. And then on top of it a lot of places are pushing these "customer rewards" cards that are in reality an underhanded way to track the buying habits of shoppers for data mining purposes. You go in and buy one thing, the first words out of the cashier's mouth is "Do you have our rewards card?" If the answer is no, out comes an application and the cashier starts babbling about the "benefits" of the card.

Yes, I know that this s**t is forced on employees, and they have to sign up a certain number of people, but it sucks for NT workers, never mind aspies who lack the ability to use BSing (what old school hackers called "social engineering") to get people to sign up for the cards. The whole rewards card thing is really awful, and you have to have a dozen of the damn things in your wallet, all so every single purchase you make can be fed into a computer somewhere that puts a "customer type" label on you so as to shove more ads in your face and the NSA/CIA is probably involved somewhere too.

Remember the movie Minority Report where Tom Cruise's character has to get new eyes so he can't be tracked? It shows him going through an area where immediately all these ads pop up. Philip K. Dick, who wrote that novel, was truly a prophet, even if his personal life was a disaster.

It took me two years with voceehab help to find this one. I dont know if they'll help me again. Or if I'd find a job ok with me only working 25 hours or less.

I'm hopping they'd accomandate me by not requiring I have to get cards don't only social anxiety

They give you food there? Lucky! I have to walk to these overpriced takeaways where a sandwich or a burrito costs $12! :x

I've read the book and that scene isn't in it. That seen is only in the movie which was made after Philip K. Dick died.

No ,well - few times they give food on special events or holidays. I meant I use to get food stamps now I don't so i have to use all my pay check but I buy less food then I use to so I can scrap up $40 to spend on other stuff and some fun things that I couldn't have before. Most days I only eat the free popcorn while working 4-5.75 hr shifts. So for 9 hours a day the only food I get is popcorn. I'm super hungry when I get home.
