I get up at 10am to take my Prozac but then I go back to bed and stay there all day apart from to go to the toilet or get food. How can I make myself get up? I have no motivation. I've finished university now until September (apart from one exam on Thursday) and I don't go out. My mum says to play with my brothers in the garden, but I don't feel like going out when it's hot and sunny. There's nothing else to do though. I just keep staying in bed all day with my laptop. Even Flo sleeps on my bed all day so I don't even have a fluffy incentive to go downstairs. :( I know I shouldn't stay in bed all day though. How do I make myself get up? I need motivation or something.

I'd never come on here if I put my laptop downstairs.

Other than when I go out at 3 am or so and walk I stay in bed all day long. I do not have the extreme fear you have but I have no real place to go either other than my sisters and that can be stressfull sometimes plus I tend to sleep when their awake.
I just had the idea before I read your post to walk to her house but I thought I really do not want to be out in the sun and all the people in the long walk over there.

You have to want to do it. There's no use us giving you advice if, in your heart, you don't actually want to do anything about your particular situation. It would be a waste of my, your and everyone else's time. Either you aren't ready for it yet or don't want to. It all has to come from within - tremendously difficult as that may be for you.

I cannot tell you how to get up; I just do it no matter the pain and apathy, pain and apathy which doesn't seem to be getting any less. :? I’m always tired and fatigued: I assume that this is due to the constant anxiety I feel…. Perhaps you’re similar. I mean, I've got my left eye closed just viewing this page....

oh the luxury! i only get up everyday because i have to. there is no one else going to get my food or support me. never the less:

you could start by setting yourself a small task every day that involves going out even for a short time. got to set yourself up an effort and rewards scheme. or at least, that is kind of what i do. one day you might turn around and wish you'd done more with your time.

You need a motivator that actually means something to you; more than a self-directed goal. Have you considered getting a job or picking up a hobby that involves other people, like volunteering somewhere or taking part in some kind of community project, like a garden or an amateur theatre group?

Get an alarm that produces the most annoying frequency possible and set it to go off every five minutes. Glue it to your bed.

I thought you told me you had a habit of watching "Today with Mel" or something like that. Now, you're telling me you don't wake up for any other reason besides basic human needs?

To alleviate this, you may want to imagine it is a sunny day every day for a while. Then, you will gain all motivation to get up and be happy again.

adding to the alarm:

ask your mom to take the cat out of the room, so you have to get up and feed him/her

ask your mom to NOT feed the cat, you'll feed it.

also, go out and take some sun girl! Vitamin D

"Vitamin D deficiency can result from inadequate intake coupled with inadequate sunlight exposure"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_D

"Sunshine is a significant source of vitamin D because UV rays from sunlight trigger vitamin D synthesis in the skin"
http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/vitamind.asp

it all comes to attitude. The moment you wake up, JUMP out of bed, don't even think about it.
Take the laptop with you and go to other room.

What's your profession?

Is it worth changing the time of day you take your Prozac? I used to take it in the morning, but although it helped my depression, it just made me sleepy. I now take it before I go to bed as it helps me get to sleep, but the sleepiness has worn off by the morning.

My psychiatrist says you are supposed to take it in the morning, but I feel that it works best for me in the evening for the above reason. And as long as I take it every day (which I do) and it has positive effects on me (which it does) I don't see the problem with taking it in the evening.

Just a suggestion.

I've never watched 'Today with Mel.'
I hate sunny weather as well so that just makes me want to stay in bed even more.
Starting from tomorrow though, I'm going to stop going back to bed after I take my Prozac. I'll be on WP a lot less.

What British morning show do you watch and what kind of weather do you prefer?
