Sorry I keep whining so often. My mom works 25/7 and my grandma is in the ICU (recovering from surgery), so I've been very isolated. So I was really excited about seeing the total solar eclipse this year in August. I would have to take a day or two off work to see it, but it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, especially for someone who can't afford an eclipse cruise. I knew about the eclipse years ago but I couldn't get my family on board with going. I had made up a long list of campsites within driving distance even, but nobody would help me. And now it's too late. The entire country and people outside the country will be there. Reservations for everything are probably already full. I missed my chance. I have no idea why I'm crying about this because it's just a big shadow. I'm pathetic and I need to get over myself. Ignore this.

How far do you live from the path of totality?

(And of course if you're most anywhere in the US you'll see it partially.)

About nine hours away. So I might need to bring a friend, but the problem is I don't have one. And then there's the price of gas. My car is pretty old and not at all fuel efficient.

You're a student, yes? I bet some people in your science departments are already planning to take a van to see the event along with an assortment of students and equipment. If not yet, they will be soon. You just need to hook into that group.

I didn't think of that. Thanks! I'll ask around when I get back to school. Now that I'm not freaking out anymore, I'm also thinking of asking the hiking club if we could work together to plan a trip.

Do you have a car? You could just drive there yourself.

I do have a car, but the trip would take several days and I would at least have to find a place to park overnight so I could sleep. Also, I work for a football team and late August is their pre-season boot camp so I'm not sure how many days I can be gone. Also, that's uncomfortably close to the first day of school.
