My landlord doesn't feel like giving us free internet anymore. The only time I can use it is when I come down to my parents cause they have internet. So I might not be able to respond to people until a week later, in the off chance anyone sends me a private message or responds to me in the forums. I usually stay at my folks place for 3 days though, and will at least be able to respond then.

I have never personally done this, but can't you use a computer at a public library? I have never been to an internet cafe, not sure if you need your own device in those sort of places but perhaps someone else will know more about them than I. Also, be sure to log your account out of any publicly used devices after you're done using them.

There aren’t too many “Internet cafes” like they had 10-20 years ago, unfortunately.

Sarah can certainly use the computer at her library.

A few years ago I tried using the internet at the library. It was a bad experience. I had to wait for a connection to free up and then the available bandwidth was so small, it was almost unusable. Others in the library were downloading music and videos and that consumed quite a bit of bandwidth.

Of course this was a very small library. I suspect at a larger library, the experience might be different.

Yes I could go to the library. But it’s like a half hour walk to get there. I’ll still go but not very often. Not sure if they have wifi in there. People can use the computers in there so I don’t see why they wouldn’t have wifi amidst the covid-19 thing. So yeah good point guys. lol I could just go to the library to check stuff. :)

Could you afford to get an internet connection yourself? Is it expensive in the USA?

AT&T, Comcast, and a few other companies offer cheap internet for low-income customers, but the service is very low-speed.

If your state offers the Lifeline program, you might be able to use it to get a discount off your Internet service bill.

I'm assuming OP is in the U.S. because someone else asked about Internet in the U.S.

Nope I'm from Canada and the cheapest thing around here is Citywide. And it's like $60 a month and disability won't help out with an internet bill. I can manage without internet I think. I miss it sometimes....but it kind of seems like I'm happier without it for some reason. I was spending too much time on the internet when I had it. It's time to get back to reality.

^ Canada? My bad. So around 42 €... that does sound expensive, at least if it's the slowest available.

Where I live, every fast food joint, McD's, Burger King, Dunkin Donut, as good internet connection that is free. Another place for free internet is hospitals. There are lots of places to wait in a hospital, public places, and you get get online there.

I don't mind a break from internet at all, though it can be inconvenient. The week we were without electricity after Hurricane Irma was one of the happiest times I had. No phone, no internet.
