Hello,

I've been really contemplating the way to happiness. The thought that underlies what follows is: it doesn't matter whether there is only death or a life beyond; whether we have free will or everything is predetermined. What matters is that we are conscious beings who experience.

Here are some few ways that actually made me feel happier, but on each occasion happiness did not last long.

1) Christianity/Monotheism. OK, this still sounds somehwhat unfamiliar to me. I was born to a Christian family, but I never really had any faith until recently, when I felt truly redeemed, i.e. stopped resenting. I felt embraced by God. This state of mind kept going for 2-3 days, then I became non-Christian again.

2) Love of fate: Normally I feel resentment towards many (adverse) things that have happened, but what if I could affirm my fate? Not just resigning myself to it, but affirming it and realising that future too is pre-determined. Free will is fiction: I don't have free will to change the order of things. That is a relief, because I just have to act in accordance with the order of things.

3) Lightness: This has happened most rarely. Why being so serious? It's a relief when everything that was given heavy burden is now light.

4) The individual himself: To me, the individual always remains more valuable than any established ideology or system. Have we long since forgotten how to dance from the very heart? What about when the love of one's heart overcomes the "Thou shalt" of the mind?

To what extent is one willing to sacrifice oneself to attain happiness? That is the question.

I feel happy when I'm doing fulfilling things and spending time with people I care about. Staying busy makes me happy too.

Even though I have some contacts and go to school, I'm often emotionally isolated, not because I want it.

Unfortunately, I'm also quite cynical, which relates to my isolation. Every now and then I run into somebody who is kind with goodwill. Then I become kinda surprised and take a step back to reconsider my cynical attitude. In other words, I feel relaxed (or happy) for some time.
