Rising Rent
Spring time once again rears its big ugly face cursing my family every year. This time, our rent was raised another hundred dollars. It's going to be close to $1400 and my family is talking about moving again. We can't find anything cheaper at the moment and thoughts of homelessness are plaguing my mind once more. If only we could renegotiate our lease, but no, we pay what they tell us or move. Why does it have to keep going up? Do they really want tenants who can't afford rent?
My mom works as an accountant and gets paid a living wage, Dad and my younger brother work the same job cleaning for other business and get paid commission, My youngest brother is working a minimum wage job at an Office Depot, and I live on social security disability. Despite all that, the cost of living still manages to bite our ankles and sometimes our knees.
How much poverty would it take for whoever is in charge of this mess to realize maybe things aren't working out as planned? I mean to an extent to where even the right wingers are, should be, and will be alarmed. I doubt they'll even care.
If I end up homeless, I don't know what I'll do.
Fun fact: There are more empty houses for sale than homeless people.

There is no such thing as perfect. We are beautiful as we are. With all our imperfections, we can do anything.
Feeling worried about the stress of moving and how you will afford to live is really awful. I'm sorry you're going through this.
Perhaps your family could find help with your budgeting (free classes at the library? Youtube videos?) My family of three pays $1500 a month in rent but does so on one person's middle class salary. If each person in your family could find a way to save just $20 a month, you wouldn't have to move. The rent goes up every year because the value of real estate goes up, so the tax assessments go up, and the landlord passes the extra taxes on to you in the form of higher rent.
