I have made so many mistakes throughout my life. I know that mistakes are a part of human nature, but I tend to make more mistakes than the average person. I have been living with so much regret lately about past decisions that I have made. I regret some of the things I have done to other people. I regret some of the things I have done to certain prized possessions. I regret not knowing at the time I made these decisions what I know now. I usually regret things that I have done, not what I didn't do. If there is something that I did and I can't fix it, I tend to put myself down and analyze what I did and why I did it. It causes me a great deal of stress and depression. Living with regret is a very painful thing when you look at what you could have done differently but it is too late.

True, it is.
Perhaps there is something useful in here?

It’s all too easy to be extremely tough on ourselves; we need – at points – to get better at self-compassion. Here is an exercise in how to lessen the voices of self-flagellation.

And perhaps this comment on the video?

most people are hard on themselves because its the only way they've been taught to motivate anyone...so when they know as adults they should be motivated, they try being hard on themselves like teachers/bosses/parents might have been in the past, which can stifle motivation, ironically. if everyone were taught proper management skills, proper listening and coaching techniques, proper teaching methods, proper analytical skills, etc, we could all 'self-manage' a lot better, but without enough spare time and/or finances to afford exposure to those kinds of information, many are left trying to motivate themselves like a strict parent...which encourages rebellion. To some, forgiving the self can feel a little like giving in to failure...but if you look close enough, you'll see its the exact opposite
