Okay, so I do not know her that well. She is the child of my biological father from another relationship but my paternal grandmother just contacted me today explaining what has happened. But after all that has happened this year (you do not want to know) this really, really depresses me. I am profoundly saddened that this has happened. Even though there is no ''bond'' with her I just feel terrible. She is on a ventilator and expected to never get off of it either. This was the result of some type of fall from her apartment, likely the stair well.

I don't know what else to think..

Jeez, that's rough. Must have been a pretty serious fall - was it just the way she landed, or from a great height?
I'm sure she's feeling pretty sh***y about it too. Hopefully she gets tonnes of support, so her quality of life can still be as good as possible. Perhaps she can work on therapies or other interventions to regain some movement?
I knew a guy once who was a partial quadriplegic, C vertebra broken in a motorbike crash, who wasn't expected to recover at all, but eventually he was able to even use a push wheelchair using gross motor function. Neuroplasticity can help compensate, and nerves can sometimes regenerate. Hopefully that's the case!
